Canary

You have found a new place to stay
And decided not to keep a pet
Perhaps he was too much hassle
Navely, you set him free
And blindly, he took the opportunity
Without realizing the consequence
His life wasting inside a cage
Guaranteed fresh water and food
A controlled temperature
Welting summer or darkest winter
Mistaking neglect for luck
He tried to fly far
As high as his untrained wings
Would carry him
Exhausted, he surveyed his new life
New sounds, unfamiliar scents
To fend for himself
Night used to be a blanket over his cage
He had to adjust to predictable hours
His experience was not of robbing pigeons
Or gregarious sparrows
He did not understand others of his kind
Where to stay
Who to trust
When to stop crying
The dizzying new heights
His heart so low
He became ill and homesick
For the safety of her apartment
