Brittle bones

The flesh is weak because the mind is absent
The brain thinks, the body reacts
A system of electricity and chemistry
Pumping and flowing, blood sustains

There is a buttress between the flesh and mind
That is the heart
It warms, pounds, it bleeds
Is this where the soul resides?

The strongest muscle is so frail
It breaks yet continues to function
The heart keeps the body alive
As empty as that life might be

The heart is the strongest organ
But it is not the largest
It's rhythm is an internal sensation
The heart cannot be denied for it keeps us alive

The epidermis, the wrapping, the shell
The perception of touch, the surface of the body
Smooth, silky, sensual, scarred
The mind knows, the heart races, the eyes tell, but skin feels

Love consumates when we become lost in another's eyes
Fingers tell the heart to thunder
Kisses order the eyes to close
Every motion felt, the flesh again becomes weak

Overwhelming and overpowering
Skin touches skin, passion and heat
The heart wants to penetrate
Beyond the surface into another's life

The mind betrays the heart, lips quiver
The brain is electric, the body is chemical
A toxic prison entraps the heart
The vessel of the soul
