A Turtles Lamentation

Slow and deliberate
Naturally clumsy, tripping over rocks
Thick in skin and skull
Hazy eyes conceal peculiar dreams

I cannot wiggle my toes
I cannot wag my tail
Come too close and I hide
You still see me yet I pretend

Reach to touch me
I snap at your finger
I draw blood and smile wryly
My smirk fades quickly

The wound I inflicted
The pain in your eyes
My distrust and poor judgment
I crawl back into my shell
