A Heros Welcome

The streets are the same
And the sky is the same
The routine of work
The monotony and predictable day

It used to bring comfort
An expected sequence of events
The simplicity of routine
This bland existence

A life once secure and idle
Without hope or fantasy
Ready to accept birth, work, and death
My duties are second to memories

Curious and perplexed
The rules and standards
To which I held myself
Expecting a just reward for my efforts

Of course I feel cheated
My worship and care
The love that you said was a lie
Sour and angry in word and deed

I still wonder and dream
Claiming to be happy that you left
I can't help but wish you
The best and the cruelest

Sick and empty is your memory
The fire that was in my heart
Has poisoned my brain

So burned and ruined
If only to see you again
Doubtful to share a kiss

When you come back home
To visit old friends
And tell of adventure
A lover is waiting
