Untitled
Row by row, single file
We walk one after the other to rehearsed aisles
Loved ones sit to either side
Parents smiling with radiant pride
Caps and gowns worn all alike
The top man starts speaking into the mic
"We are gathered here for this joyous event
Of young ones given permission to on their way be sent
Into the world where real life awaits
We're here to welcome you through the open gates"
The speech continues and some sit with tears
Others ponder hopes and dreams, some of us our fears
The top mans speech comes to an end
It is time for the climax of the ceremony to begin
Row after row we walk across the platform
As our names are called we are give an official form
A diploma as well as long stemmed rose
When returned to our seats we again all arose
The top man returned to the mic and this is what he said
"I wish all the luck to the class of the millennium"
It's done, it's finished, I am now a graduate
The whole world's open to me and I can discover it
The years my parents always told me were the best
Are the years for me I'd rather not put to rest
There were years that gave me youth and energy
They were years that will always be held dear to me
This day marks a childhood I will never live again
And an unpredictable adulthood I'm about to begin
Someday I may marry and have children to home I'll say
Enjoy the youth given to you before it goes away
