Utopia Unrealized

One life to comply with the world's demands.
One truth to be told amidst a mountain of lies.
Your life is alone, on this peak it stands,
As torment and regret cloud of the skies.

What's this pitiful, appliance filled life for?
And why does the bad always outweigh the good?
Our lives are lost; our minds a closed door.
Will we ever do what we rightfully should?

We all live under the foot of the power elite,
And serve their food on our own golden platters.
We storm their castle just to get something to eat,
Pushed to the ground as we climb rusty ladders.

Righteousness, as extinct as compassion.
All the world wants is something to eat.
Given our healthy bread & potato ration,
We swoon for the power under their feet.

Utopian, as unfamiliar as peace of mind.
Withering away our minds as slaves to labor.
We search the world, but can not find
That new jacket we see on our neighbor.

What happened to the brilliant minds of the past?
Perhaps they've been slowly conformed into serfs.
The philosopher, in our society, will never last.
Our minds have regressed since the day of our birth.
