| The great thing about this hobby is that there is something always new when I step into the bunny barn! | |||||
Entry for December 8, 2008
Now that winter seems to be settling in I figured now is a good time to add a few blog entries. I thought I'd make this entry about the plusses and minuses of winter time in my world of rabbits.
On the plus side: 1. Since shows wind down in November I get to spend more of my weekends with my rabbit. During the busy season I feel like there are a handful of rabbits that get all of the attention and the rest just hang tight knowing winter is coming and they will once again get attention. 2. Winter time means Pa Farm Show is around the corner and the PASRBA Convention isn't far behind that. PASRBA really has the same feel as a convention (although usually at ARBA you can feel your fingers and toes when you go outside. That isn't the case with PASRBA in February! 3. Winter is also a good time to get caught up on registering rabbits/sending in for GC certificates and updating pedigrees. I usually do pedigrees on a need basis during the spring and fall show seasons. It is nice to get all the pedigrees in order so I actually feel up to date. On the minus side: 1. It is COLD....It is COLD.....and it is COLD!!! Going out to the garage to feed is painful in the cold. However, I remind myself of those days 20 some years ago living in Erie and how I would trudge through snow drifts and the biting wind to go to my grandparent's house to feed chickens and rabbits That was COLD!! Reminding myself of those "good old days" makes my trip to the garage pretty mild. 2. Cleaning cages in the cold isn't my favorite part either. It is a messier job and it is just plain old COLD! 3. I miss going to shows. It is a bit of withdrawal. I will check the show listings and think for a moment that traveling to Rochester NY couldn't be that bad on January 4th.....what am I thinking??! Rochester is in the snow belt...blizzards/whiteouts/drifts above your waist. I do come to my senses when i realize it is just part of the "addiction". 2008-12-08 22:49:37 GMT
