How Running Can Be Hazardous to Your Health
I realized I was not going to have a particularly good time running when it felt like I was probably about to get shin splints again.  Then, almost a couple miles into the run, some jackass almost hit me with a cigarette butt he threw out his car window as he was driving by.  About another mile later, I almost got hit by a pick-up truck turning onto the main street.  Before I continue, know that I NEVER fall down when I'm running.  Ever.  But, as I was running along on the grass (one of the lovely areas by a busy street with no sidewalks), I came upon a paved driveway, complete with a curb.  There was  a large dip, covered by leaves, right in my path.  Now since I run through the same area every day, you'd think I would remember this.  But I didn't.  And because of the leaves, I also didn't see the hole, and I stepped right in.  Surprise!  It's full of water!  So, my left foot got soaking wet and muddy.  But that's not all!  I caught my foot on the curb, and went sprawling into the cement driveway.  Yeah, ow.  So, my injury tally is: -left shin muddy and scraped, with skin barely broken  -right knee muddy, cut, and bleeding  -left elbow dirty and slightly scratched  -left shoulder bruised  -left palm, dirty and slightly scratched and  -right palm dirty and scraped.  Fun, ne?

As a side note, you'd think that after having this happen to me, that the next time I run, I'd at least be smart enough to run when there's still daylight present.  But, you'd be wrong.  Thankfully, I am unscathed, at least from new injuries.
