The Bonding Book

OOC Dragon Meeting 2 With Tyviel'a

DGateDragon:: I would be glad to answer any questions that anyone has.

KelZorephal:: whats the meaning of life?

DGateDragon:: 42.

DGateDragon:: Someone asked if I have any idea what's going on with the game, or a time frame. Answer is no - Darrin has told you guys as much as us.

DGateDragon:: Yeah, none of us are thrilled with the down time, but the alternative is no game.

#Bizzy:: Say you are bonded with a secian, and then that secian decides that it doesn't like you anymore because of some things you do.

#Bizzy:: Can they up and debondify with you?

DGateDragon:: Needless to say, no.

#Bizzy:: What if, say, you kill their husband?

Scribe for Hire:: The bond is for life and the whole life of the character.

DGateDragon:: There is no such thing as debondify-ing.

DGateDragon:: Well, in this DGate.

DGateDragon:: Acinonyx did it back when.

DGateDragon:: But that will never happen again.

DGateDragon:: Death, or a great span of time absent is all that will cause the Bond to fade.

DGateDragon:: It comes down to specific case by case.

DGateDragon:: Due to any number of factors, best thing to do is contact me if you have any specific question(s) pertaining to your case.

DGteDragon:: My personal opinion is that a Bonded Secian would chose their Bondmate over all others.

#Bizzy:: Can secians transfer wounds from inside your stomach? Because I think if you ate your secian, maybe they wouldn't see you kill sentinent things.

DGateDragon:: Is that a serious question?

#Bizzy:: Not even remotely

DGateDragon:: I see time has not change much about you.

#Bizzy:: I still enjoy humor

Mirrdae Aldenshae:: Gallows, but humor.

DGateDragon:: A Bonded Secian probably understands their Bondmate better than an un-Bonded Secian. It should not surprise them, or even disgust them, to see the dragon kill or eat a sentient.

DGateDragon:: They might not enjoy it, or disapprove, but overall should accept it. Might think it rude for the dragon to subject them to it, however.

#Bizzy:: So it's then up to the dragon to decide if they want to put them thru the hurt of seeing it?

DGateDragon:: Up to the Dragon if they would subject the Secian to it.

DGateDragon:: (side note - it is perfectly acceptable for a Secian to accompany a Dragon to hunt sentients. The Secian cannot harm sentients, but it is always acceptable for Bondmates to be together)

Clara Effain:: I know this is one of those up to the players discretion type things, but I'm curious how you picture a Drake's dwelling, in general, should they decide to find a temporary spot before they seek out their lair if they grow again

DGateDragon:: Drake dwelling, hm.

DGateDragon:: I am not a fan of our current housing policies, but I haven't fought to change them either. Things change over time, so be it. However, my opinion is that drakes are not full grown dragons, and don't seek out lair type places.

DGateDragon:: I think our players tend to think of themselves as such, due to any number of factors. They are dragon, one, they might never see the full grown mind and body of a dragon, two, so they morph themselves into it anyway.

KelZorephal:: I like to think that my drake is free to roam right now... a house would only tie him down

DGateDragon:: I am ok with the houses turned into lairs, but it isn't my personal view of where a drake might call home.

DGateDragon:: I see nothing wrong with "city drakes". I suppose I see nothing wrong with caves, either.

DGateDragon:: And I like Kel's RPing view.

hyenaelf:: But would a Drake start thinking about where he/she wishes to build a lair? Kinda like......territory shopping?

DGateDragon:: Elf - maybe, but in an ideal world, you would have to fight for your territory anyway with the plethora of older dragons.

DGateDragon:: The need for a territory doesn't quite set in at that age.

DGateDragon:: But the greedy power hungry need to be a bully-type teenager might.

Clara Effain:: Maybe more possessiveness than territorial at this point

DGateDragon:: That could be one way of viewing it Clara.

Lilhyr:: so basically drakes should mooch off of their bonds like children do their parents!

Lilhyr:: they have some independency, but still rely on the secian, like human children/teens

DGateDragon:: Rely is too strong of a word, the Bond isn't like that for most.

DGateDragon:: Ideally, as much time as possible should be spent with the Bondmate, because that is how you would want it. Possessive could be one key to it, survival might be another, enjoying their company another.

DGateDragon:: In -most- cases, it's my opinion the Dragon is the selfish one in the relationship. But that might manifest itself in a way that doesn't have a negative connotation.

Clara Effain:: I just meant possessive in the sense that as far as territory goes, a Drake might be more inclined to think of his/her possessions as his/her territory... then the land would come at third.

DGateDragon:: Clara, I would agree with that statement, but one of the root problems in DGate is you can justify ALMOST anything and call it RP.

DGateDragon:: ::chuckles::

DGateDragon:: The intent is the key behind most of RPing, and intent can certainly be hard to perceive.

#Bizzy:: Even eating secians? *duck*

DGateDragon:: I don't have a problem with a Dragon who did that, but I would expect the community to respond correctly. I would also hope the dragon's player would be doing for a reason, and not trying to garner attention as an outcast, bad seed, teenager type behavior.

DGateDragon:: Which is usually the case with "evil" dragons.

Faliarin:: The hunting sentient beings with a secian would only apply to bonded secians?

Clara Effain:: It applies to any secian as long as they're not the ones harming the creatures

DGateDragon:: Clara is correct.

DGateDragon:: I think the Secian should probably struggle with the decision on whether or not to go, probably have some RP interaction to that.

DGateDragon:: Not be motivated by the OOC reasons of going to a rich hunting ground.

//Keep in mind a lot of this is up to your imagination. The briliiance of text based adventures.

Lilhyr:: What's the general appearance of a drake? So they have humanoid faces or dragon faces? etc. etc.

DGateDragon:: Lil - think gargoyle type minus the tail.

Lilhyr:: so they have a snout?

DGateDragon:: Not so much a snout. A half snout?

DGateDragon:: A lot of it is left up to your imagination! Let me tell you what drakes do NOT have: tails, big horns, major frills.

Lilhyr:: they can have small horns/frills?

DGateDragon:: they can have small horns maybe and smaller frills.

Lilhyr:: so the appearance of ear frills are ok too?

DGateDragon:: I have never given much thought to their ears, nor asked the designers of the game.

DGateDragon:: SO that sort of answers your question, while leaving it open for imagination.

DGateDragon:: Any more questions on drake appearance?

Faliarin:: Yes, Do dragons have the ability to smile or the facial muscles?

DGateDragon:: Yes, they can smile. How that might come across is open for your mind. Maybe it is just a wolf grin, maybe a muscle-controlled smile.

// This section is dodgy as I couldn't determine exactly what questions were asked and which ones were answered.

Lilhyr:: I think she is asking if it's ok to have accented colors on your scales

Scribe for Hire:: She's a green drake with swirls of brass scales, he's a brass with some green horny things on his head if I remember rightly.

DGateDragon:: It would be like a draco briefly turning polkadot - cute to the community, but rather silly ICly.

DGateDragon:: I don't think other colors would come out for being siblings.

Silveryhaven:: I always wondered what might determine color icly

DGateDragon:: The color is not set in the womb, and there is no connection otherwise. The "bond" occurs between Secians and Dragons, not between Dragons.

DGateDragon:: That is my take on it at least.

//Question by a couple people asking about limbs.

DGateDragon:: Arms and legs would be about humanoid.

DGateDragon:: I think a ton of things sound nice in a chat room, but wouldn't add up ICly. I could list the examples that happened in the game in the past, and just were poor decisions by GMs.

DGateDragon:: An arachnian staging a draco. Acinonyx destroying her bond to rebond. Michael turning green before black because he was drunk. A certain draco turning polkadot during staging.

Scribe for Hire:: I'm curious as to the RP of a dragon with a pregnant chosen. I know when I went through it with Fionna, it was very difficult trying to mesh the dragon instinct to protect the secian with the desire to give the chosen the freedom to be herself. In doing so, we restricted pretty much ALL our hunting activites, TSC was out, and she wasn't supposed to go out without someone I trusted to keep her safe. At what point should the dragon just put down their foot and say "No more, its too dangerous for you?"

DGateDragon:: I can't answer that question without knowing the RP and the why behind the Dragon.

DGateDragon:: It would vary from dragon to dragon.

Silveryhaven:: would pregnancy delay a staging?

DGateDragon:: No
