Northern Lake Huron Pow Wow and Rendezvous

The Presque Isle County (Michigan) Historical Museum and the Mackinac Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will be holding a Pow Wow at Lakeside Park in Rogers City, Michigan on August 8-9, 2009. A voyageur encampment will also be held on the nearby grounds of the museum. No charge for admission to either event. Tours of the reconstructed Armed Sloop "Welcome", a 1774-81 supply ship that operated in the nearby Straits of Mackinac will also be available for tours and evening cruises. The Pow Wow and Rendezvous is part of the week-long Rogers City Nautical Festival which also features a major arts and crafts fair and carnival. The 18th Annual Odawa Homecoming Jiingtamok takes place at the LTBB Pow Wow Grounds in Harbor Springs, MI. Head staff includes Arena Director Dave Shananaquet, MC Sonny Smart, Head Veteran Walker Stonefish, Head Male Dance Judge Harvey Dreaver, Head Female Dance Judge Marie Schuyler-Dreaver and Host Drum Ojibwe Park with Head Dancers to be selected each day. Miss Odawa Nation 2009 will be crowned on August 15. This is a contest pow wow. It is free and open to the public. Grand entries are 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on August 15 and noon on August 16. Rendezvous at the Straits Powwow
This is a special event combining the early history of the Mackinac Straits area, French Fur Traders along with the Odawa home coming Powwow.
The 52 acre site over looks the spectacular Mackinac Bridge and is surrounded by majestic cedars. Located at the New France Discovery Center, this show is considered a must see for quality representations by living historians. Walk the trail from the 1700 hundreds and come to the dance arbor of a modern day Powwow celebrating the heritage of the Anishinabe Three Fires in the homeland of the Odawa.
