Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump
Rating(on a scale from 1-100): 86

De La Soul has truly risen since the release of the classic
3 Feet High and Rising in 1989. Lyrically brillant and stuffed with hot beats, Mosaic Thump proves that De La Soul can kick it, even when they're all well into there thirties. Taking a completely different approach with this album, De La avoids the hippie image and gives modern beats and rhymes a try. Cameo appearences are all over this album, with Xzibit, Redman, Beastie Boys, Chaka Khan, Busta Rhymes, and Freddie Foxx all making stellar appearences.
This album has some crappy tracks, such as "U Don't Wanna B.D.S." feat. Freddie Foxx, and "With Me", but most of them are superb. "Oooh" feautures Redman's magnificent jibberish over a funky groove, while other hot tracks such as "My Writes", "View", and "Declaration" all have sophisicated rhymes over simple beats.
Overall, the style and lyrics in this album are superb, and you can easily forget about the albums few flaws.
