The Ford Fiesta SuperSport has become THE legend of the entire Fiesta models history since its creation in 1976. In July 1980 Ford decided to create a limited edition car using the 1300 Sport as a base & adding items to it from the "Series-X" parts catalogue. Only 3000 cars were built. All were sold in the UK only.Europe got a similar model called the Super S, but that had a different bodykit & was also available in 1100cc form. The SuperSport was only ever built as a 1300.

"Series -X" was a range of bodywork improvements created for certain models of Ford during the late 1970's.The range for the Fiesta included the bodykit which became standard on SuperSports & mk1 XR2s & the ever fashionable RS 4-spoke alloy wheels popularised by the Capri RS3100 & the Escort RS2000 among others.

The SuperSport was only offered in four colours, sunburst red, diamond white, strato silver or black. The latter two being extra cost items. Production ran from around July 1980 until 3000 cars were built. Almost all were registered in 1980/81/82 on W or X registrations, but at least one escaped registration until November 1982 & Y reg.

The SuperSport interior trim was unique to the model.Available in red or black checkered finish it had an unfortunate habit of disintegrating. The material is no longer available & probably the hardest part of the car for anyone restoring one to get secondhand today.
The body stripes were also available in two shades, red or grey. You would assume they would correspond with the interior trim but it was common for the cars to wear conflicting colours,i.e red trim-grey stripes or vice versa. Stripe kits are readily available from aftermarket suppliers for around 40-50.

These are the images used by Ford in their April 1981 issue of "Cars" brochure.Putting the SuperSport beside a silver 1300 Sport showed just how much better looking the SuperSport was.The use of a black car is a bit strange though as it hides the bodykit & black painted window surrounds! The SuperSport was available with a variety of options in true Ford tradition.
