The front outer wings on A33 TJN were original & rusting along the top & front edges. The offside wing was cut off tho reveal this! The bottom rear edge needs repairing as does the top front edge. The joint with the front panel is remarkably good, but the top rear has a reinforcing plate welded on which has rotted badly, rusting the side of the bulkhead box as well. This plate will need removing to repair the metal beneath & then a new one fabricated as it doesn't seem to be available from panel suppliers.

Things just got much rustier!
The rubberised underseal that Ford applied to the inner wing is very good at hiding a multitude of rusty sins beneath. It pays to give all joints a good prod with an old screwdriver, any weak & rusted areas will soon show themselves.

The repairs turned out to be more complex than first thought, but once everything had been repaired & the rust removed the area was coated with anti-rust primer. It's now ready for the new outer wing.

The welding has now reached the half way stage (29 December 2001).The new outer front wing has been fitted so the drivers side of the car is now structurally restored although there will be plenty of preparation work to do before the respraying can begin.Work will shortly begin on the passenger side & although the rear quarter panel is good the wheelarch, sill, floor & inner/outer front wings will all need surgery.Click below to continue.....
