The Mk1 XR2s
The first Fiesta I owned was a 3 year old Y reg 1100L in 1986 so it seemed natural to progress to a mk1 XR2.I didn't though as a mk2 was suddenly a much nicer prospect in 1988.I always wanted a mk1 so since 1995 i've owned 6 of them, mostly in poor condition. Here i'll recall the better ones
MUL 961X was bought in May 1995 for 250.The MOT had just expired but the shell was solid.I intended to use it to reshell a rotten black supersport I owned. It never happened as I restored C25 BEX instead.I broke the supersport & this XR2 for spares, selling the XR shell as a rolling project in the Autumn of 1995
I'm not a fan of black cars so quite why I bought A888 FSF in November 1996 for 200 I don't know? The car wouldn't start but was clean & tidy & very local so I towed it home.It soon ran after the plug leads were connected correctly!!!.The car was sold in January 1997 at a small profit
VGV 641X was a complete rot box.I only bought it (for 150) because it was built in November 1981,before the XR2 was launched so in November 1997 it had to be one of the oldest surviving XR2s.Every panel except the roof needed replacing or welding. The shell rebuild was completed inside a year but the car was sold as a project to the Fiesta Club GB secretary in February 1999 for 170,which represented a big loss when the new panel costs were added. The car was eventually rebuilt & resprayed black (oh dear). It now resides in Wales.Quite a journey as it was registered new in Ipswich,Suffolk!
CVW 90X was the reason behind the hasty departure of VGV 641X,& it was red!!.I knew the car & it was in excellent condition.I bought it in October 1998 for 600,but just a month later I was offered 800 for it.So ownership of my best mk1 to date was very short & sweet.I did however buy the car back again in January 2001,for 50.It had rotted away in 2 years.
I soon realised that I shouldn't have sold CVW 90X & just a month later on December 10th 1998 I found A367 HVF in the auto-trader for 300 & only 78000 miles on the clock.Cosmetic were required which after VGV 641X were a "walk in the park".I have devoted a seperate page to this car.Click the pic to visit it.
