You may have gathered from the photos that I didn't exactly get the car from a conventional source.I found it in my favourite breakers yard. Missing only the door mirrors the car was in excellent condition for a Fiesta registered on January 13th 1981 & definately did not belong in the scrapyard.
A good look round the car revealed very little rot.Only the front wings around the lights & one sill show their age.The inner front wings are as new.The chrome bumpers are also in superb condition,as is the interior trim. The mileometer gives the secret away as this car has only covered 50449 miles in 22 years.

So I bought it!! For the sum of 100 I now have a very solid project base needing only minor bodywork repairs.I collected it on January 18th 2003.

Once I received the registration document in transpires that this car was owned by one local lady from new in January 1981 & bought from her local Ford dealer in King's Lynn,Norfolk.
The last time I became the 2nd owner of a Fiesta was 15 years ago...& that cost me nearly 7000!!
BBJ 769Y, my first Fiesta was 3 years old when I bought it.It had done 44920 miles at that time.I bought it back again in March 1999 for 125....it had done over 167000 miles on the original engine. The bodywork was only good for straining tea.....it got scrapped after I transfered the registration number (now on family Astra estate)
The above facts highlight just how rare a low mileage mk1 Fiesta in good condition is today.....& this one was almost crushed....
I haven't decided what to do with the car yet.Given its mileage & condition it would seem a shame to do anything other than return it to excellent original condition. But can I really live with a car that hits 60 mph in about a week & was painted an unfortunate shade or brown/red/orange.(officially called Terracotta). It was still a bargain though & whatever I decide has got to be better than the crusher.Time will tell.................................
This car was sold in October 2004 after the bodyshell had been restored.
