My TWO QUOTES from the "One Minute Manager" are as follows:
1. "People who feel good about themselves produce good results.” (from
page 19 of the William Morrow and Company edition published in 1981) - I
selected this quote because if teachers can make their students feel good about
themselves they are more motivated to learn.
2. "Everyone is a potential winner. Some people are disguised as losers,
don’t let their appearances fool you.” (from page 71 of the William Morrow and
Company edition published in 1981) - I selected this quote because I currently
teach a group of students who appear hard and tough as one of their coping or
defense mechanisms. If I can help them break through their image of the “tough
ex-con”, then they can become teachable.
My TWO QUOTES from the "Verbal Judo" are as follows:
1. "If your antagonist can upset you, he owns you at some level."
(from page 33 of the First Quill Edition published in 1994) - I selected this
quote because it is important to think before reacting and not to let students
push your buttons.
2. "Train yourself to be free of bias, prejudice, and expectation."
(from page 180 of the First Quill Edition published in 1994) - I selected this
quote because I work with students that come from, all walks of life and can
not let bias, prejudice, and expectations interfere with my delivery.
ONE BOOK from the Recommended Reading list I believe would be most worthwhile
for me to read is “Catch-22” by Joseph Heller "
I selected this book because I have heard the term “catch-22” my whole life and
I think I will help sort out any misinformation I have been told about the term
“catch-22. ANOTHER BOOK: “On Becoming a Person” by Carl Rogers also sounded interesting because I have read a little
bit about him and his influence on psychology and human development and would
like to know more.
ONE BOOK I have read that is not on the Recommended Reading list is “How to Win
Friends and influence People” by Dale Carnegie. I would recommend this book to
a friend because it has many helpful tools in dealing with difficult people and
situations. As a matter of fact while reading “"One Minute Manager"
and "Verbal Judo" I recognized a lot of similarities.
