Eek-A-Mouse
More dancehall than roots, Eek-A-Mouse pioneered
the "Singjay" style of toasting in the early eighties. Using
the trademark sparse rythms of Henry "Junjo" Lawes' productions
Eek-A-Mouse compensated with his somewhat baroque style of toasting.
Prior to his dancehall incarnation the Mouseketeer
had apparently been a roots reggae singer in the seventies and cut a few
well respected tracks under his own name - Ripton Hilton. Maybe worth checking
out if you have the time.
A note about the name, apparently he chose it in
honour of a horse he used to regularly loose money on at the Kingston
track; a story he put to wax in his track "How I Got My Name"
on the Mouseketeer album.
