Introducing Sir Writes-A-Lot
This is Sir Writes-A-Lot (Wally for short) and he came by to talk to the 4th graders about the TAKS Writing test. Wally told the kids everything they needed to know to pass the test.
Some of Wally's words of wisdom:
- Do you know what the TAKS test and the Boston Tea Party have in common?
- The battle cry is the same. No TAKS-ation without representation!
- Now we all know how every good story starts, dont we? Thats right. Every good story starts with a piece of paper and a pencil. Ha!
- Writing is just like talking with your pencil. And who would know that better than a talking pencil. If you can talk, you can write. And based on what Ive heard in the hallways, yall should be writing more than Lemony Snickett!
- This writing thing must be easy to do. I mean, I can do it and Ive got an eraser for a brain!
- Remember to relax, take your time, get plenty of rest the night before, eat a hearty breakfast, and do your very best! Your teachers all have told me that you are the best and brightest students anywhere in the whole world, and they want each of you to show just how brilliant you are by doing your very best tomorrow! Remember, writing is nothing more than talking with your pencil!
- And to close:
People, stop chewing on my brothers and sisters! We are twigs, not Twix!
This is just some of what Wally had to say. Hopefully the kids take it to heart and do really well.
