The Richmond Family Story of Cherokee Blood

Every family has the story. You have probably heard it as well. All my life my father had been saying that he had Indian blood. This of course meant that I would have Indian blood also. I can't prove it in any way right now. I suppose one day I will have a DNA test to find out. For now, here is what I have.

  1. Dad heard family stories of it.

  2. Dad's aunt Rosie had it written in her notes that the Richmond's were descendant from Cherokee Indians.

  3. From the book The Richmonds of Trimble County found at Trimble County Public Library, Wayne L. Richmond writes that James Henry Richmond is one-half Irish and one-half Cherokee Indian.

  4. Also from the book The Richmonds of Trimble County, Sarah (Sally) Rowlett Richmond, wife of James, was Cherokee Indian. He states this is unconfirmed.

James Richmond is my 5great grandfather. So if he is was one-half Cherokee Indian that would make me 1/256th Cherokee Indian.

Sarah Rowlett is my 5great grandmother. So if she is all Cherokee Indian that would make me 1/128th Cherokee Indian.

If you add 1/256 and 1/128, that would make me 3/256th or 1.17% Cherokee. This of course is if the stories are true. I don't know.
