This was Jennie's and my first assignment together |

I was assigned to the 6972nd Support Squadron from the 6914th RSM and arrived in November 1958. This was probably the most miserable assignment I had in 20 years with the USAFSS. I was a married E-4 and our payroll was handled by Andrews AFB. Jennie and I had a 31 ft house trailer and lived in a trailer park in Severn, Maryland. The payment on the trailer was about $65 a month and it cost us about $25 a month to park it. Additonally, we had a car payment of $25 a month. To top it off, Jennie became pregnant. In the mean time, I was drawing $35 twice a month for pay and I should have been drawing at least double that. Thank the lord for Jennie's allotment check. Needless to say, I volunteered to return overseas as soon as possible and we were transferred to the 6911th RGM in June 1959. |
