My grandfather, Heinrich (Henry) Barthel was born 24 April 1848 in Hesse-Darmstadt,Germany.  I was told he did not want to fight for Bismark so he fled to the United States.  He immigrated in 1867 and settled in Pennsylvania.   He and my grandmother, Catherine Ruth,  were married 22 April 1882 in Lehigh county, Pennsylvania.  The death certificate for my grandfather shows his father's name as  Gotlieb.  Unfortunately, it did not disclose his mother's name.  I believe the correct spelling of Gotlieb is Gottlieb since my father's middle name was the same and it was spelled with the two "t's"

My grand parents settled in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania and had six sons: Wesley, Jacob, Henry Jr, Charles, William and John.  Of the six sons, my father, Charles, was the only son to have any children.   I have two sisters:  Doris and Edna; and I also have two brothers: Hampton and Henry.

I was always interested in my family genealogy even as a young man; however, I did not get real involved in research until a few years ago.  Through information my sister and I had collected, I was able to get a good start.

Other than finding information on my grandfather Barthel, I have been able to uncover data of other branches of my family tree.  I have been able to track most of them back to the early 1800's.  The Ruth branch of my tree extends back to 1690 and the Resh branch of my family extends back to the 1700's..

If anyone reading this has any information which may be benificial to me, I would greatly appreciate you contacting me.
