Kendall, Harvey and Ball
Kendall, Harvey and Ball were the greatest mid-field triumvirate of the modern game. Sadly, injuries and disciplinary problems limited them to only 140 games together. Of these Everton won 75 and drew 28.
"Alan Ball was a terrific one-touch player with boundless stamina. He was unselfish. When Bally arrived at Goodison in 1966, the Blues and the Reds were at about equal standing. Then he and he alone tipped the scales in Everton's favour." Alex Young, Everton 1960-68 "Alan Ball was simply the best. He displayed inspirational leadership, created chances, scored goals and defended when not in possesion. Ball was the big engine in every game and a shining example that even little ones can become world-class." Gordon Lee, manager 1976-81 "Merseyside folklaw says that Liverpool play in red so that their blood will merge with the colour of their shirts - and that Everton wear royal blue for the same reason. Legend has it that the Kop smiled every time that Alan Ball pulled on the red shirt of Arsenal." Gary Doolan, The Evertonian "In my capacity as skipper, I anointed them - Los Tros Magnifico or something like that. Harvey was the most skillful of the three with his incredible close-control. Kendall was another tremendous player known for his powerful tackling, precision passing and intelligent reading of the game. Bally was world-class. He had a superb first-touch. They were the darlings of Goodison." Brian Labone, Everton 1951/72 "They were the only three-man team to have won the League championship! Seriously, Kendall, Harvey and Ball were the best midfield unit that I have ever known. I used to stand back and marvel at them - I had very little else to do." Gordon West, Everton 1661-73
