Alan Stubbs was released by Everton as a teenager but always hoped that one day he would return to Goodison Park to play for his boyhood club. That finally happened in July 2001 when Walter Smith drafted him in on a free transfer for Celtic.

His move to Goodison followed an eventful spell in Scotland for the defender, who during his time at Parkhead won an array of honours, including a Championship Winner's Medal and a Scottish Cup Winner's Medal in his last season north of the border.

He also won a personal batle during his time in Scotland by beating testicular cancer on two seperate occasions and marked his come back the seond time around with a goal against Hibs at Easter Road.

Prior to his move to Scotland in May 1996 he was an integeral part of the Bolton Wanderers team that got to the League Cup Final at Wembley and won promotion to the Premiership in the same season.

Brought in to fill the gap left by the departing Richard Gough, Alan can produce displays of the highest quality and is renowned for his ability to spray accurate passes all over the field.
