| There is a man, he carries a flag, upon this flag are words. As yet I cannot read these words. They are obscure. Wading through human debri I spot a word of truth A man with an enlightening smile Standing amidst the carnage Holding an obscure flag As I drift closer and gaze At the lone figure I see intelligence etched on his face He stands out more than anyone else But still his flag is obscure He walks, I follow Unwilling to let him go without me Fascinated, needing to know more He stops and waits for me to catch up This soul reaching man I hesitate, my heart pounds Fear creeps and winds its way into my body I ache to trust So I walk on, still the flag is obscure Face to face Silent words pass between us The flotsam of our lives for now forgotten For reality will return soon enough Our hands touch, gently, slowly As do our hearts Consuming each others thoughts and passions Still the flag remains obscure Frustration creeps in Tell me what you are trying to say I ask Then I realise his hands and feet are bound and tied I step back I become aware that the words On the flag this man holds Will for now remain obscure We look at each other Both see anguish blanketing our bodies He turns, this moral man and walks Quickly he glances back Sees that I still follow Stepping over mind fields Of regret, anger, despair I catch up and walk beside the man Holding his hand in love and friendship For this is all I can do Simultaneously Secretly wishing The flag was not obscure Copyright Jane F Chapman April 2003 Simultaneously Simultaneously Secretly wishing The flag was not obscureecretly wishing The flag was not obscure C.
