We cried Shed tears As the horror unfolded before our eyes Watching news stories in disbelief Direct telecasts showing hijacked planes Planes deliberately and callously flying into buildings It was and is still too horrifying to comprehend Bringing utter chaos to the land of the free A nation in shock Suffering and dismayed at the tragedy That stirred presidents to weep And brought the whole world to their knees Brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers Friends and allies missing or gone Never to hold again Still, days later The awfulness reaches us across the sea The stories of misery and pain We mourn for their sorrow And personal loss Hope seems gone and emptiness has followed The vastness of the miles between our countries Bring home to us a sense of uselessness But still together Unified in the aftermath of anger and outrage The world is as one in the determination to stop These animals that cause such grief In the words of our Australian leader These acts of bastardry have to end They cant be thought of as human They need to pay, to suffer as America has suffered But shining through the heartbreaking tragedy Come stories of courage Of bravery beyond self caring Such amazing tales of survival That we cheer Bringing hope, a quick smile and a tear Hoping the guilty feel kicked in the teeth Yes anger is strong around the world We saw a nation battered and bruised Who will come through this together United stronger than ever before We cry We pray We dont surrender The world goes on but it remembers 911 R.I.P.
