My Dog

It has been a year
I miss you as much as I love you
it was the birth of your death yesterday
I haven't forgotten your bark
or your soft eyes
I still dream about you
and that you are alive
I see you happy or sad
my memories of you flood into my head
when I pass by your remains
and yesterday my emotions took control
of me when I sat beside your grave
the flowers beside you wilting away
much as you had some time ago
you were my first puppy
and I know there will be none
as cute or precious as you
you live still inside of me
and you'll always be my dog.
