American Lamb or Imported?

To introduce our Luscious Lamb and Mild Mutton to you, let us begin with a quotation from the American Sheep Industry newsletter that arrived in our inbox on the 17th of March, 2006, titled "The American Lamb Difference":

"According to a recent Synnovate study, consumers prefer American Lamb to imported lamb, ranking it superior in terms of quality, taste and healthfulness. In keeping with the preferences of U.S. consumers, domestic producers raise American Lamb to ensure the highest quality product with a consistently mild flavor and more meat on the bone. American Lamb is raised right here in America so you know it is fresh. Available year-round, American Lamb is up to 10,000 miles fresher than imported lamb."

Luscious Lacaune Lamb and Mild Mutton available from Red Dragon FarmThe Red Dragon Farm raises our lambs without hormones, antibiotics or exposure to pesticides. We do not dock tails or castrate the ram lambs; thus they are suitable for Halal slaughter. We use Lacaune, East Friesian, and hair sheep crosses which are noted for very mild flavour and very little carcass fat. Our personal lamb-eating experiences have chosen Lacaune as the hands down winner in flavour and tenderness, so we ensure all of our lambs are at least 50% Lacaune genetics. Forage fed lamb is very healthy, with the CLA and Omega-3's that grain finished meats don't have.

100% Forage-fed lambs are available from September through early November. The price is $4.95 per pound dressed weight. They are lean and tasty. The hanging weight generally run from 25 to 35 pounds.

Spring lambs are are $5.25/pound hanging weight. These December-February born lambs are smaller and are very mild in flavour. Spring lambs are available from March through June. They are ideal for whole roasts and barbecues!

We occasionally have mutton available, as ground, roast, and sausage, for $4.95/pound.

All live market lambs and mutton sheep, regardless of size, are $135 picked up at the farm, if you want to take them to be processed (or if you do it yourself). We will deliver lambs to Bluegrass Lamb & Goat in Paint Lick (USDA facility) for a small additional charge. Processing charges will run about $65/head and are paid by a separate check directly to the processor when you pick up the product.
