Before we
continue,
it might be a good time to remind you that
these pages are my Manifesto;
a clarification of my thoughts on
Spirituality. If you should come away with
something that helps you in your own search,
then great. But keep in mind
that you still have to find your own way. My
way won't work for you because
you're not me.
Here's a few
thoughts along these lines. They're not
original with me, but I
couldn't name my sources since I've seen
them in so many different places.
-
"The Tao that can be taught is not the Tao."
-
"Once you've put it into words, you've missed
it."
-
"The infinite cannot be defined with a finite system."
-
"Don't follow me; I'm lost too!"
And now, if you're still
unsure, here's one last page that may help.
Synopsis
For starters, this is not a recommended reading
list (find your own books),
but if you're looking for further insight to
what I believe, I've found that the
following books (in no particular order) fit
well with my journey.
|
God's Debris
A Thought Experiment
by
Scott Adams
|
Yes, its by that Scott Adams but don't expect
Dilbert.
"Do you think an idea can change the world that much?"
I asked.
"Ideas are the only things that can change the world. The
rest is details."
You should be able to find it at
Amazon.com.
|
Gödel, Escher, Bach:
an Eternal Golden
Braid
by
Douglas R. Hofstadter
|
There is no way to describe this
book. Look for it in used book stores and
you'll alternatively find it in various
sections: Philosophy, Mathematics, Sociology,
Science, etc.
It won the Pulitzer for the author in its first
(1979) printing and has since been re-released
a few times including a "millenium" edition.
Pick it up and prepare to have your mind stood
on end. You can find it at
Amazon.com.
|
The Tree in the
Ancient Forest
by
Carol Reed-Jones
|
According to the blurb on the back
cover, this book is targeted towards ages 4-10.
I found it to be a well presented "Circle" that
fits directly with my Journey. Read this book,
and if you see a deeper meaning to the
beautiful, simple story, you'll be well on your
way to understaning the point of these pages.
The book is available from
Amazon.com.
|
The Liar's
Prayer
by
Gregory Flood
|
Sub-titled "A Grouch's Guide to
Enlightenment", I found the draw to read
irresistable. The author presents a view of
spirituality that fits "spot-on" with the way
I've been living my life for the past twenty
years. I just find it interesting that he's
managed to put it all into words in such an
insightful manner. The book is available from
Amazon.com.

Joshua Worthington
Eagle
by
Samara C. Kezele Fritchman
|
Joshua is a golden eagle. He was
raised in a barnyard and thinks he's a chicken.
Of course, he's not happy and this is the story
of his journey to a more fulfilling life. The
book is available from Balancing Life.
|
The Tao of
Physics
by
Fritjof Capra
|
From the back cover:
'The mystics explore it through meditation.
The nuclear physicists explore it through
experimentation and hypothesis. It's the
universe as we understand it today, a "cosmic
dance" of paradoxical yet unified relationships
-- an organic vision brilliantly evoked by a
gifted and thoughtful physicist.' Published by
Bantam, look for it on
Amazon.com
.
|
Stonehenge
Decoded
by
Gerald S. Hawkins
|
The
author takes a look at Stonehenge from an
astronomer's point of view and makes some
amazing discoveries, including a means of
calculating eclipses. Originally published by
Doubleday, it should be available from
Amazon.com.
|
The Tao of
Pooh
by
Benjamin Hoff
|
"It's about how to stay happy and
calm under all circumstances!" I yelled.
"Have you read it?" asked Pooh.
From Penguin, it should be available from
Amazon.com.
|
The Grandpa Tree
by
Mike Donahue
|
This beautifully illustrated book tells
the story of the life cycle of a tree,
from a seed carried by a bird to it's
collapse to the forest floor where it nurses
the next generation. Again, it is targeted towards
children, but the simple story is quite
moving for readers of all ages.
It should be available from
Amazon.com. If not, try your nearest
National Park or National Forest book store
or visitor's center.
