Notes
Creating an account with Geocites is very difficult. Firstly, you are required to have a yahoo email account to set up a site. No other email will do. After fulling out several forms for the yahoo account, the process has to be repeated with geocities. This is a waste of an Email account.
Geocities provides 15 mb of storage space. Like a lot of other free web hosts, It doesn't give the use ftp access to the server, requiring users to upload files using their own uploader. Files are controlled using an inbuilt file manager which allows you to move / delete / rename files and create directories. This inbuilt file manager is very similar across most free hosts to compinsate for lack of ftp.
Geocities also provides an inbuilt HTML editor. It also has in inbuilt WYSIWYG editor called PageWizard for users who do not know how to write HTML code
There is a lot of javascript and pop up addds included in the pages, including a large, built in Geocities menu on the right of the page, which can't be removed.
