Are
the best of the west sticking around?

Dayne Crist, Notre Dame HS
(Sherman Oaks, CA)
"Academics,
competitive program, and overall comfort level. These things are very
important because I want to graduate and get a degree wherever I go,
I want to play for a competitive team, and I want to feel at home wherever
I go."
Dayne
Crist, QB

Anthony McDonald, Notre Dame HS
(Sherman Oaks, CA)
"I
think the tradition and history of the school are important as well.
The graduation rate, the alumni, and of course a football program that
is disciplined, demands excellence, holds players accountable and plays
a good tough schedule year in and year out."

like weight lifting a lot, and unlike a lot of kids I don't view it

Narrow List Down in Late May

Garrett Goebel, a 6”5 265-pound defensive end from Lombard, IL
said he does not have a favorite as of now. “It's hard to say
because every time I start to favor a few I get more offers.”
Said Goebel. “I'm going to narrow my list down at the end of May
and come up with a top 5.” But Goebel already has said Notre Dame
would definitely be a school he’d consider. “I'm really
going to consider Notre Dame in my college choice.”
Goebel also described the perfect type of college for him “Academics,
athletics and location... I also just want to feel comfortable where
ever I go.” Goebel stated. ...Read

Andrew
Sweat Post-ND/OSU Trip
5/28/07

1) Describe
your overall visit at ND? What was it like?
The overall visit was awesome.
I first got on campus and met up with coach Weis where he personally
took me around on the golf cart touring the campus. And then I ate lunch
with coach Brown at the legends on campus then went back to the facilities
and talked to Brandon Newman. Then I talked to coach Latina. It was
a great trip.
2) Has the
ND visit affected your decision at all?
I am not sure yet, I am still
trying to decide with my parents and coaches. It was a plus but I guess
I will have to just see what happens.
3) When
did you plan the visit to ND?

Frazer
"Simply wants to play the game he loves"
Zach
Frazer, a 6”5 230-pound sophomore quarterback at Notre Dame will
be getting either disheartening, or exhilarating news on May 30th, the
day Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis announces the top two quarterbacks
for this fall. There have been rumors swirling as usual, about who the
quarterbacks will be. There have also been rumors as to what will happen
with the two “left out.” According to David Frazer, Zach
Frazer’s father, the rumors about Zach transferring are not true.

Fleming Interview

1) What
made you commit to Notre Dame and what made you decide to commit?
I felt real comfortable
at a lot of schools, but at Notre Dame it was more because of the people
that are there. Coach Weis, coach Brown, and the guys in my class. I
just felt real comfortable around all them and I felt like I wanted
to play wit them.
2) Do you
keep in contact with fellow Chicago linebacker Steve Filer? Is there
a status on him?
Yea, I do but we don’t
talk about recruiting much. And some guys just don’t like to talk
about it every day, but from my perspective I don’t see him making
a decision anytime soon.
3) What
are your best attributes as a linebacker and what do you need to improve
on?

1) If you
could name a top 5 right now which schools would be in it? Do you have
a leader?
I’m doing
that at the end of the month, so no favorites as of now.
2) What
are your strengths and weaknesses on the field?
Last season my strength
was definitely run blocking and getting downfield to backers and DB’s,
My weakness last season was pass pro I have done a good job working
with my feet and went undefeated in one on ones at the Purdue Nike camp.
I got O-line MVP there actually.

are you looking for in a school beyond academics and football? ...Read

Cal Teammates Going North to a Different ND
5/3/07
In a short span of just one week, a couple Notre Dame high school
football stars decided that come 2008, they’ll be packing
their bags and heading north, not to their current Notre Dame high
school, but a different Notre Dame.
Two of the top high school football players in the country in quarterback
Dayne Crist and linebacker Anthony McDonald committed to Notre Dame
this past month. Both were wowed by their trip, which they attended
together from April 11th-14th. “Unbelievable, what a great
campus. Not sure how to describe it. As for my favorite thing, the
stadium on campus, the Gug, the weight room and football facilities.
WOW. I can't wait.” Said McDonald.
Crist too shared some favorites with McDonald about his trip. “It
was GREAT. I got to see the campus and it was absolutely beautiful,
the facilities were unbelievable and the coaches were spectacular.”
Crist said. “Everything felt right.” ...Read

Reliable
Sources?
Reliable sources"
claim to know who the starting quarterback at Notre Dame is, while
"Little Tuna" himself, is still pondering
“Take
it for what it’s worth, but my uncle is friends with Corwin Brown
and he says Demetrius Jones is the leader and will start against Georgia
Tech.”
“Clausen is the obvious leader as of now. He’s looked the
best in the highlight tapes of any of the four quarterbacks.”
“Sharpley has the most experience and looked great last year in
the Blue – Gold game, so he’ll most likely be the favorite
as of now.”
“I think because of Frazer’s size and arm strength he will
start.”
These are some commonly read posts on Notre Dame football fan message
boards since spring practice has started in South Bend. Notre Dame is
known for being a rigorous academic institution. However, maybe the
fans aren’t known for being as bright as the students, and it’s
not good enough if they don’t know. Notre Dame head coach Charlie
Weis has stated many times he won’t release the leader till August,
and the top two quarterbacks won’t even be announced until late
May. But that’s not good enough for Notre Dame fans, who believe
there are already signs of a definite starter.
Sean Logan, a 17-year old Irish fan from Arizona knows that just from
watching highlight tapes and reading media articles it’s nearly
impossible to tell a favorite. “Well, it's stupid because there
is clearly not enough support and evidence to say, "Look, this
guy will definitely start on Sept. 1st." You just don’t have
enough evidence after some ten practices to state that a guy will start.
We haven't even heard nearly anything from Charlie Weis about the quarterbacks
situation. All we have heard are some little rumors from "reliable
sources" that a particular quarterback is definitely starting.
To say something like that without any input from the quarterbacks coach
or the head coach is just purely speculation. There is a fine line between
the word FACT and OPINION.” said Logan.
“Realiable sources” have and always will be a liability
to the message boards. Talking to a player is different than talking
to a recruit, for the obvious reason that to interview a player you
must go through media relations, which is not easy for a random fan.
An interview with a recruit, however, is just an instant message or
e-mail away. And with reliable sources on message boards, no one will
ever know if the “reliable source” is actually “reliable,”
or just the posters gut feeling.
ESPN, The Sporting News, Rivals.com, Scout.com will all say things about
who the starter is, stating they have the inside track. Most of the
time, the “inside track” on a strong collegiate football
program, is the “inside track to speculation.” Nobody has
a clue who the quarterback is as of now, except for coach Weis, coach
Powlus, and the four young men representing Notre Dame at that particular
position. And for the starter in September? Even coach Weis won’t
be knowing that for a while. Check back with all these “inside
tracks,” in September, and see oh, how wrong they were.
Dayne
Crist Interview Pt. II
1) What
was the deciding factor for you and ND?
Academics, the coaching
staff, and the comfort level at the school.
2) When
did you give your commitment to coach Weis?
Last Monday.
3) Did Anthony
help recruit you at all?
