Trillium Grant to Help Local Youth Centre
The Recreation Outreach Centre is pleased to announce that they have received a two-year grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation totaling $50,000. Directly, this money will fund the salary of the Centre Director who will be responsible for ensuring the sustainability and growth of the organization. With the assistance of the Trillium Grant, the Recreation Outreach Centre (ROC) is able to offer a wide variety of programming for children and youth in Prince Edward County. These programs include Drop-In on Monday nights for ages 5-10 and Tuesday nights for ages 11-13. Wednesday night is Kids on the Rock, a program for 5-12 year olds based on Christian principles and we are currently running a twelve week program of Introduction to Dance and Gymnastics. There will be a camp during March Break that runs from 9:30 - 3:30 and we are planning two weekis in the summer for Athletes in Action Sports Camps. "Receiving this money will help alleviate the concerns associated with a charitable organization and staffing," said Jennifer Bishop, Centre Director for the ROC. "We would really like to focus on the kids and offering them the best experience we can, but to do that we need to secure our operating expenses" The ROC currently employs one full-time and two part-time positons at the Centre and rely on the generosity of local businesses, individuals and community organizations to help support their initiatives. If you would like to donate to the Centre or have questions about their programming, please call 476-2001. |
