Anime is a fad from Japan that hit America hard. Raking in several billions in American dollars, it is probably the most profitable field in Japan. Some famous titles are; Cardcaptor Sakura, Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and Gundam Wing. Most Anime series start as manga, a type of comic book. All series have uncut versions that may or may not be considered innapropriate. Dragon Ball Z has nudity, blood and swearing in it. Cardcaptor Sakura (Cardcaptors in America) has controversial issues on the psuedo-gay themes in the manga and the anime. Even Pokemon had minor sexual innuendo in it. But the reason they did is because Japan has no censorship laws and Japan finds nudity, violence and sexual content is not a "bad" thing. American censorship laws invoked change in all series. Some series were changed because of marketing decisions. Cardcaptor Sakura was aimed at the pre-teen girls in Japan. Since most anime watchers are boys, it was changed to Cardcaptors, where there wasn't any psuedo-gay themes and a main villain was turned into an ally.
Of course, what business wouldn't be succesful without adult anime. Adult Anime, called Hentai, rakes in 25% of the money that animation companies make. Hentai varies from graphic violence, graphic nudity and graphic sex. Some series like Dragon Pink has graphic nudity and sexual situations, but no really hardcore stuff. Doesn't make it any less erotic, though. (=^.^=) Some hentai movies like Ninja Scroll have very graphic violence, language and mild nudity. Really bloody but, man, it was so COOL!
