| SEATTLE RECAP PURPOSE The RECAP Restoration group supports the quest of foreskin restoration. Currently male infants are routinely circumcised without a choice at birth. Adults men can understandably resent having their genitals surgically altered. Foreskin restoration can allow for a journey of healing and resolve. The return of skin to covering the glans from successful restoration, can increase sensitivity and facilitate the return to a natural look and added protection. Our group believes that it is important to acknowledge the mixed feelings resulting from circumcision. These strong feelings are often minimized, discounted, or ignored, yet they are real. A desire for a future foreskin can be a reality. There are individuals that refuse to discuss the issue of foreskin, the idea of restoration, or of circumcision, because their own beliefs and fears are so deeply entrenched. Denial due to American social pressures, medical misinformation and financial incentives or religious factors have created resistance to ending circumcision. How is it the rest of the world views the natural foreskin as normal? How has this crude cosmetic surgery continued to injure infant males in the medically advanced United States? We must question the procedure of routine infant circumcision. We need to keep our infant males intact and let them make decisions about their own bodies. Cosmetic circumcision is sexual violence. SEATTLE GROUP HISTORY The original Seattle RECAP group was founded by Chris Ertel from Maple Valley Washington back on November 19, 1992 with the idea of getting a support and information group together. This was a time before the internet and the subject of foreskin restoration was just getting public. A newspaper article was the start leading to the purchase of the book "The Joy of Uncircumcising" by Bigelow. Chris got the gathering started with men from Washington state and a several others from Oregon and California. Every other month we would meet in a member's home until one meeting packed a house with over 30 interested men. From that point on our meetings have be in larger public settings. The topics we discuss are mainly about the processes of foreskin restoration and of ending routine circumcision of infant males. There are over 45 on the local invite list with an average of 10 to 15 guys at a meeting. Contact me if you are interested in getting involved in your own location. RESTORATION OVERVIEW Skin will grow when tension is placed on the tissue and this growth will be permanent. RECAP supports non-surgical restoration methods. The glans is normally a mucous membrane, similar to the tongue. By covering the glans, normal moisture can assist in bringing the tissue closer to it?s natural state. Usually there is increased sensitivity as a result which is an important benefit. The non-surgical restoration process is about creating tension on the skin by using tape, tension and/or weight. Many devices use an elastic strap instead of gravity. There are some techniques that do not require tape or weights at all. The length of time it takes to restore depends on the methods used and how the body is responding to the process of skin growth. A large factor is the amount of skin available from the circumcision and and individual's goals. There is complete control over what your restoration can look like and there are many techniques you may choose to use . Restoration can be a reality. |
