Recorded ten years after the fatal plane crash in 1977, Southern By The Grace Of God was recorded during 1987's Tribute Tour stops at the Omni in Atlanta, Georgia on October, 15 ,Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville, Tennessee on October, 23 ,and Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas on November, 1.
No one ever thought it would happen but it did. Personally I didn't hear this album until 1995, I considered it sacralige. When I finaly broke down and listened to it I liked what I heard.
SBTGOG includes a tear jerking version of Free Bird where Ronnie's younger brother Johnny tells the audience that he won't sing Free Bird because there is only one man that can sing it. The band plays and the audience sings. Very touching to us die hard fans.
