SuFFrAgE
Suffrage in countries At the turn of the twentieth century, some nations granted the vote to women. The first country to offer women’s suffrage was New Zealand in 1893, followed by Australia in 1902. This was followed by Finland, Norway, Canada and the United States of America in the early twentieth century. All British women were given suffrage in 1928 after a hard fought battle. Suffrage in more recent years was granted to South African black women in 1994, but the women of Kuwait still do not have the right to vote, nor the right to stand for election.
