1998 Word of Knowledge about the Bush Presidency

"It is My will for the Governor of Texas to be the next President of the United States."

From the 2001 non-fiction book "Plucking the Eagle's Wings", pp. 233-235 by Perry Stone [emphasis mine]:

"In April 1998, I had an unusual spiritual experience in the early hours of the morning. As I was coming out a deep sleep, I was aware I was lying in bed beside my wife. Suddenly I heard a voice say, 'It is My will for the Governor of Texas to be the next President of the United States.' I leaped out of the bed and awoke my wife saying, 'You won't believe what just happened! I just heard a voice speaking to me.' I repeated the words to her and she smiled, said a few words, and went back to sleep. I dressed and went into my office to tell my office manager about the incident. We checked the Internet to confirm that George W. Bush was the Governor of Texas. I told my office manager, 'This is the man who is supposed to be the next president.' I felt odd talking about the incident since no one, not even Governor Bush, had announced his run for the presidency. While I said nothing publicly, I confided only in a few close friends and family members. I experienced the same inner inspiration that I had when the word came to me in 1992 concerning the spirit that would come upon the nation. An unexpected event in Israel seven months later confirmed to me that the word from God was accurate.

In November of 1998, I hosted a group of Americans on a tour of the Holy Land. The group of 150 had just toured the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. My video crew, along with the God's News Behind the News crew, was leaving the Temple platform when my office manager noticed five men dressed in suits coming to the Western Wall for prayer. He said to me 'That looks like George Bush, the Texas Governor!' It was indeed the Governor, along with four other men.

My office manager and I rushed toward the Western Wall where Bush had concluded a brief visit and was leaving. I walked up to him and introduced myself. He said, 'You're the fellow who has the tour group.' I replied that I had 150 Americans with me. The Governor asked, 'Where are you from?' I said 'Tennessee.' I mentioned again that I was leading the tour group and said to Mr. Bush, 'They want you to run for president!' He laughed said, 'All right.' I said, 'I just want to encourage you. God bless you.' Moments later, my group greeted him, shook his hand, and took pictures.

On that day, November 29, 1998, I knew that I had met the future 43rd President of the United States. Governor Bush had made no announcement that he was running. He had just been re-elected for a second term as Governor of Texas. On March 2, 1999, he appointed a committee to research the feasibility of a successful presidential bid.

On April 15, 1999, Governor Bush announced his plan to seek the Republican nomination. I was always curious as to when Bush actually decided to run. Prior to our meeting in Israel in November of 1998, I recall no one saying that he would run. During an interview in September of 2000, Oprah Winfrey asked Governor Bush when he decided to run. He said that it was in December of 1998, which would have been shortly after his three-day trip to Israel. I later read Bush's testimony on the Internet, and I also read his book. He mentioned his three-day tour to Israel in 1998 and how he was touched by his journey. He also mentioned being in Jerusalem praying at the Western Wall, and the men who were with him. At the conclusion of his biography, he wrote about one of his friends telling him how the Jews and Gentiles are coming together. When I read this I thought that it was very unusual, since this is what the Holy Spirit had been showing me. According to his personal testimony, Bush recalled a message a pastor preached in December of 1999, after which his mother, Barbara Bush, said, 'He is talking to you.' This was a strong confirmation to him that he should run for the presidency.

I do not believe that our meeting had any bearing on his choice to run for president. But I do believe that the meeting was for my benefit in order to confirm that I had heard from the Lord."

From the 2001 video "America's Prophetic Destiny", by Perry Stone [emphasis mine]:

"As we continue our teaching on America's prophetic destiny, I want to share with you the viewer a very exciting, and at least in my life, a very monumental event that took place. In April of 1998 - this is 2 and a half years before the 2000 presidential election, approximately that length of time - I was in a deep sleep. And coming out of that sleep, I heard a voice say to me, 'It's My will for the Governor of Texas to be the President of the United States.'

Now it startled me to the point that I sat up in the bed and I leaned over and shook my wife. I said, 'Honey, you're not going to believe this.' She said, 'What happened?' I said, 'I just heard a voice speaking to me saying It's my will for the Governor of Texas to be the President of the United States.' You know, and I recall she something like 'Well that's nice', and she just rolled over and went back to sleep.

Well, I jumped up and got ready and came down here to our office and got with our office director Charlie Ellis. I said, 'Charlie, is the, is Bush the son of George Bush the former President, the Governor of Texas?' He said, 'I think so', and I said, 'Let's look it up on the Internet and make sure.' We looked it up and George W. Bush was the Governor of Texas, and I said 'Charlie, the Lord told me this morning, and I know it was the Lord, it wasn't me, cause I heard a voice, that said It's My will for the Governor of Texas to be the next President.' And I think Charlie said, 'Well, I guess we'll find out a few years from now.'

And, uh, I told just a few people, I didn't make an issue about it, I told them just a few people that were dear friends, I told my office staff here about it, and they recall it in detail. Uh, you know, I was very excited because I thought 'Wow, the Lord is really, He spoke to me, you know, he spoke to me to let me know something that's going to happen.' Well, I didn't, I didn't think a lot about it when the election's two and a half years away you sort of put in on the back burner.

Seven months later, on November 29th, we were in Israel on a tour. I was taping on the Temple Mount with Joe VanKouvering with God's News Behind the News. We concluded our taping, we were standing at the gate where tourists enter the Temple Mount, and one of the men there had some [koumas - unintelligble] and some bread, and I was talking to him and we were eating, it was one of the Muslim guards on the Temple Mount.

And all the sudden Charlie came to me. He said, 'You're not going to believe who's at the Western Wall.' I said, 'Who?' He said, 'It's the Governor of Texas, Bush.' I says, 'It can't be.' And I don’t know why I said it can't be, of course it was, and he said 'Come out here see.' So I came off the Temple Mount and looked, and looking over top from the ramp that goes onto the Temple Mount, I looked and it was Governor Bush with a number of other governors.

Now we happened to tape portions of that event in 1998, November the 29th, so I'd like to play for you right now just a brief excerpt of what I said standing on the edge of the Temple Mount, actually it's overlooking the Western Wall in Israel on November 29th, 1998. Here's what I said at that moment:"

[cut to an excerpt of live footage from Israel on November 29th, 1998 - Perry Stone watching Governor George W. Bush walk on the Temple Mount]

[Perry Stone voice-over]: 'George Bush Jr., Governor of Texas, is at the Western Wall, is visiting the states, I mean, visiting Israel today, and I believe you might be looking at the next president of the United States.'

[cut back to studio]

Now, let me tell you what happened right after that. I asked Charlie, I said, 'Bring the camera over, let's go down here and see if I can meet him.' And Charlie said, 'You're just going to go up and talk to him?' I said, 'Well why not?' Of course, being President, you can't do that now because of the security that's there, but there were no cameras there. My camera and Joe VanKouvering's camera, the cameraman taping for God's News Behind the News, we were the only two cameras there. And I said, 'Just turn it on, let me go up, I want to greet him.'

And I walked up to him, and uh, we had 150 tourists there, and it was then that I let him know that our people with us were interested in him running for president, and uh, just gave him a little bit of encouragement. We didn't get all of it on tape, but here is the excerpt of the day, again November 29th, 1998, when we met who was then Governor George W. Bush at the Western Wall, and let's, let's share that with you right now."

[cut to an excerpt of live footage from Israel on November 29th, 1998 - Perry Stone greeting Governor George W. Bush on the Temple Mount]

[George W. Bush]: ". . . boy you brought the tour here."

[Perry Stone]: "Yeah. I got a whole group . . ."

[George W. Bush]: "Where you live?"

[Perry Stone]: "I've got 150 Americans here."

[George W. Bush]: "That's good. Where do you live?"

[Perry Stone]: "Cleveland, Tennessee."

[George W. Bush]: "Yeah you are."

[Perry Stone]: "And they all want you to run for president."

[George W. Bush]: "Thank you."

[Perry Stone]: "So I want to encourage you."

[George W. Bush]: "Thank you, Perry."

[Perry Stone]: "Ok"

[George W. Bush]: "You bet."

[Perry Stone]: "God bless you, buddy."

[George W. Bush]: "Thanks."

[cut back to studio]

"Now, after that just very brief moment with him, he went up the steps, we'll show you a portion of that, and he was leaving with four other men that he, he was traveling with, and our people gathered at the bottom of the steps there and, and began to holler at him 'You need to run for president. Are you gonna run? We want you to run.' And he came back down the steps and took some time to greet our people and take pictures and shake hands with our people. And, uh, people then came to me and said, 'We heard that the Lord told you something about Bush. What is it?' Well, apparently, it leaked out, you know, that the Lord had told me seven months earlier that it was His will that he be the President.

So I told a group of people, 'Let me just share with you what the Lord told me in April of '98, seven months ago, that it was His will for this man to be the President of the United States.' And I remember them saying, 'Well, he's the Governor, he just got re-elected, you think he's gonna run?' I said, 'I don't know, um, what's going to happen. I just know it's God's will for him to be the next President.' I said, 'That's all I can tell you. I can't even tell you why. But I can tell you that.'

So, uh, in uh, when, George W. Bush appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, she asked him, 'When did you decide to run?' And he said it was December of '98, which would of course have been after the Israel trip. I want to just publicly say, or on video tape, I want to say that I don't believe us meeting him had anything to do with his decision to run for president. But I believe it was a confirmation to me personally that the Lord had truly spoken to my heart."

MY COMMENTS ON THE WORD OF KNOWLEDGE

Praise God for his revelation of future events! This is simply amazing to say the least. Not only did he reveal his will that George W. Bush be the next President of the United States, but he led Perry and George W. Bush to meet each other in Israel, of all places, to meet and talk about the next presidency. This further confirms the fact that the Lord is revealing the future to his servants, and Perry Stone seems to be one that he has especially chosen for these times.

Please note, however, that the Lord made NO JUDGMENT OF BUSH'S CHARACTER, DEMEANOR, OR ABILITY TO SERVE. He didn't say "I want Bush to be president because he is my servant", or "he is a Christian and I want him in office because he will help with the proclamation of the gospel in the middle". This is an idea Perry Stone has about Mr. Bush: he believes Bush is a sincere Christian who prays and reads his Bible every morning at 4:00am. However, if you look at the facts from history, nothing could be farther from the truth.

What this word of knowledge simply said was that God's will was that Bush, NOT Al Gore, be the president at such a time. This doesn't mean Bush will do a great job, or be a great president, or do everything perfect, or cater to the wishes of Christians, or even DO the will of God. It simply means that in God's sovereign wisdom and his ability to see past, present and future all at one time, George W. Bush was to be the president at this time. That's it.
