I. INTRODUCTION
How many of you have heard this before: "Our Sun is just another star. In fact, it is an average star - one of 100 billion - in the Milky Way galaxy". What if it isn't just another star? What if what we know about the Sun does NOT apply to all the stars we see in the night sky? Would it throw the big bang theory into irreconcilable doubt? I believe it would.
The goal of this paper is to prove, using only the Bible, that the Sun is NOT a star.
There are four major reasons from the Bible why I believe the Sun is not a star, and therefore the assumptions made about stars, their creation, their life, their death, their burn rate, the composition - basically every assumption we make about stars - are faulty. These faulty assumptions completely throw into doubt the theory of the evolution of the universe and the big bang theory. In this paper I will show:Below, I will discuss the ramifications against the scientific world and the big bang theory if our Sun is not a star. But first, a brief discussion of what we know about the sun from scripture.

III. BIBLICAL PROOF THAT OUR SUN IS NOT A STAR
Below are four sections, based on the Bible alone, which show that our Sun and stars are completely different celestial bodies. It will be shown that their Hebrew and Greek words and meanings are different; that they are ALWAYS listed separately in scripture - usually in the same verse; that three important scriptures make key distinctions between the Sun and stars; and that they were created separately in the beginning. Finally it will be CONCLUSIVELY shown that the Sun and stars have a DIFFERENT PROPHETIC FUTURE.

"Aster" - 35 times |
A star |
"Astron" - 4 times |
A group of stars; constellations |
"Phosphoros" - 1 time |
From "phos" - light and "Phoros" - to give |
As we see from the Hebrew and Greek words above, the Sun and stars have very different meanings and usages.
Consider the following scriptures, noting that in EACH CASE, the Sun and stars are mentioned in the same verse. If they were both stars, then why are the Sun and stars both listed, as if they are different celestial bodies?
Deu 4:19
And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.Deu 17:3
And hath gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;2Ki 23:5
And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.Job 9:7
Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.Psa 136:7
To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth forever:Psa 136:8
The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth forever:Psa 136:9
The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth forever.Psa 148:3
Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.Ecc 12:2
While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:Isa 13:10
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.Jer 8:2
And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshiped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.Jer 31:35
Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:Eze 32:7
And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.Joe 2:10
The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:Joe 3:15
The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.Mat 24:29
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:Luk 21:25
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;Act 27:20
And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.1Co 15:41
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.
If you pay attention and get this part of the essay, you will see the light, so to speak. Check out these three verses and my explanation:
Act 27:20
And when neither sun [helios] nor stars [aster] in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away.Luke, the writer of Acts, clearly distinguishes between the Sun and stars in this verse. Note that he says NEITHER the Sun, NOR the stars. If they were all stars, he would simply write "and when no stars in many days appeared . . .".
1Co 15:41
There is one glory of the sun [helios], and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars [aster]: for one star [aster] differeth from another star [aster] in glory.Paul tells us that there is decreasing glory, or brilliance, from the Sun to the moon to the stars. This is obvious to anyone with eyes to see them in the night sky. But the last phrase is key. After Paul talks about another glory of the stars, he further elaborates on stars, telling us EACH star is different from the other stars. If the Sun were a star, would he not have made it clear in this description? Indeed, he purposely left the Sun out of the "star" description, because he knew that the Sun is a special body in the universe, and there isn't another one like it.
Mat 24:29
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun [helios] be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars [aster] shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:This is one is POWERFUL if you can see it. These are the words of Jesus Christ as penned by Matthew under the direction of the Holy Spirit. Notice there are TWO SEPARATE FATES of the Sun and stars:
1. The SUN will be darkened
2. The STARS will fall from heaven
If the Sun is a STAR, according to Jesus, it MUST FALL FROM HEAVEN. Jesus said the STARS SHALL FALL FROM HEAVEN. But no, Jesus gave SEPARATE PROPHETIC FUTURES for the Sun, and for stars. Additionally, as shown in the characteristics section above, the Sun will ENDURE FOREVER, even though Revelation tells us there will be no need for it, because Jesus Christ will be all the light we need in the new heaven and new earth. But according to this verse, the stars will fall from the sky. This is UNIMPEACHABLE PROOF that the Sun is not a star.
If the above three verses didn't convince the reader, then this verse, which doesn't even mention the Sun, should be the clincher for any stable-minded person. Note the following verse detailing the creation:
Gen 1:16
And God made two great lights [ma'owr]; the greater light [ma'owr] to rule the day, and the lesser light [ma'owr] to rule the night: he made the stars [kowkab] also. This verse unequivocally separates and distinguishes the Sun from stars. Yes, they were all created on the fourth day of creation, but God created the Sun SEPARATE from the stars. Note that the writer of Genesis, almost as an afterthought, says that "he made the stars also"!
Simple grammatical analysis will lead one to understand that God made the Sun as a special celestial body to sustain life on earth, while he made the stars for a different purpose and at a different time. The writer makes it so clear that stars were not the same as the "great light", the Sun, that was created to rule the daytime when he said "he made the stars ALSO". The word also means "in addition to" - it is very clear that in addition to making the Sun and moon, he made the stars.
IV. CURRENT SECULAR SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
What We Know About The Sun From Science
New Scientific Evidence About Our Plasma Universe - The Electric Sun
New Scientific Evidence About Stars
In 1944, the late Charles Bruce wrote of many astronomical phenomena in a privately published monograph, "A New Approach in Astrophysics and Cosmogony". There he noted that many of the phenomena seen above the surfaces of stars can be explained as analogues, on a much grander scale, of lightning discharges which are observed in the atmosphere of the Earth. Using the notion that the things happening above the surfaces of stars are electrical, Bruce was able to explain many curious things that have puzzled astronomers about the very brightest stars, and also about those stars which vary in brightness over periods of years, weeks, or in some cases even hours. Where the conventionally-minded astronomers struggle with a model star that must blow itself up like a balloon and compress itself again, requiring its surface to move very great distances, often in short times, Bruce viewed the process of stellar variability as the propagation of a cosmic lightning bolt through the star's atmosphere. His was a far simpler answer. It required no internal readjustment of the whole star during the cycle: what was seen was an atmospheric effect.
Extending his idea of the existence of cosmic-scaled electrical discharges, Bruce noted that the nova eruption - popularly perceived as the explosion of a star - could also be explained using a cosmic atmospheric model. Seen conventionally, the nova eruption can mark the death of a star; to Bruce it was a discharge of great extent but with no fatal consequence for the star. Bruce's theorising, despite its congruence with observation, was not considered at all by astronomers, because he introduced the wrong word into the language: that word was electricity.

V. THE BIG BANG THEORY IS DESTROYED
So what? What does it matter whether the Sun is a star or a special body created to sustain life on earth? These questions may be on your mind, but the EARTHSHAKING RAMIFICATIONS of the fact that our Sun is not a star are evident when you look at the theory of evolution and the big bang theory.
If our Sun is not a star, it blows a major hole in the scientific theories of how our universe was put together. It means there was an omniscient designer who carefully crafted our Sun and placed it where it is for special reasons. To admit this, for the scientific world, is clearly NOT an option, so more time and money will be spent on trying to KEEP GOD OUT of the equation. That is the way it has always been, and how it always will be, according to the Bible:
Rom 1:20
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:Rom 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,1Co 1:20
Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?1Co 1:27
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;1Co 1:28
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are:1Co 1:29
That no flesh should glory in his presence.1Co 3:19
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.1Co 3:20
And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.VI. CONCLUSION
In closing, the best evidence we can have is the very inspired words of God Almighty, who has clearly told us in his revelation to us that the Sun and stars and not the same. Here is a summary of the main arguments of this paper:
Over and over, the Sun and stars are mentioned separately in the same sentence. The Sun and stars have different Hebrew and Greek words and meanings Paul tells us that the Sun and stars are different in glory. Luke clearly distinguished between them in Acts 27. Moses tells us the Sun was created, then the stars were "also" created. David tells us in Psalm 72:17 that the Sun will endure forever. Isaiah tells us in Isaiah 13:10 that the stars will not give their light in the future, and Jesus tells us that stars will fall from the heaven. Yet Jesus also tells us that the Sun and stars will have different and separate prophetic futures - the Sun will only be "darkened" temporarily, since in the end, the Sun, according to David, and verses in Revelation, will endure FOREVER, while the stars will "fall from the heaven".
