January 8, 2002 - Dream

This was a very vivid dream. I was at my old church, Evangel, on a Sunday night. Mom and dad were with me, and a small child related to us (can't remember who it was) was rolling around and making noise in the foyer. I tried to make him quiet. Mom and dad were sitting on the back row. All the sudden, I found out with about 10 minutes notice that I was preaching the sermon that night!

Pastor Cauthon was speaking and giving announcements, and we sung a couple choruses. I was NOT prepared to give the sermon….I had no idea what I was going to preach on. So, I had my Bible Quiz Bible in my hands, and I started frantcially thumbing through it, looking for a passage I could preach on that I was somewhat familiar with. When I thought it was time to preach, I began to slowly walk out on to the stage, and people in the congregation could see me starting to walk out. But I looked over to my left, and there was a trio of ladies getting ready to sing...waiting for their music to start. At that point, I darted back into the back area and was relieved, as I had a few more minutes to prepare what I was going to preach on.

I was very unprepared, and had a lump in my throat and butterflies in my stomach. I kept saying to myself "I must find something I know about...something I studied in Bible Quiz." I looked through all the books of the New Testament and couldn't find anything. As the ladies started to finish the song, I was still walking up and down the hall, around the church corridors with my face in the Bible, looking for something. I settled on I Corinthians chapter 8.

When I walked out, pastor gave the announcement, and I was very late coming to the pulpit. About 3 full minutes elapsed before I came out, and everyone was quiet and staring at me. I came out smiling and felt prepared, not real nervous. I opened my Bible on the pulpit off to the left of the said and said, "Good Evening". The crowd answered. I told them that tonite we were going to talk about a subject that isn't preached about very often in churches, but is important to the church. I started to read from I Corinithians chapter 8, but then realized that the subject matter of what I was getting ready to preach wasn't even in I Corinthians 8, but in Acts chapter 8. (Now I realize that it was actually Acts chapter 9, but in my dream I thought it was chapter 8).

I was going to preach on the separation of Paul and Peter and Paul's ministry to the Gentiles and Peter's ministry to the Jews, and how that Gentiles are called to be the church. As I was standing there, realizing that the passage in I Corinthians I told them we were going to read and had nothing to do with the subject matter, it came to me "Why didn't I preach on Bible prophecy? A subject I knew alot about?! The scripture that came to me was Revelation 17, the beast and the 7 empires, and the 5 that were fallen. No one in the church knew what they were. Then I saw myself preaching that sermon and asking "How many know about the symbols in Revelation? How many of you understand that they are important and can be a great witnessing tool? Impress your friends!

So, I started at that point to change the sermon and preach on Revelation 17, and at that point I woke up. It was 5:38 in the morning. This was an extremely vivid dream...I remembered many things about my old church. Praise God for this dream and may it mean something special. May I have it again or something similar in the future.

I did have this dream, and I have no reason to make it up. If you choose not to believe I did not have it, that is your prerogative. Whether it was from The Almighty, a message from Him, I do not know. I am still waiting on confirmation from Him, but Joel prophesied in the last days "young men shall see visions" and "old men shall dream dreams".

Please let me know if you have any questions.
