He was cursed because of his birth. There was nothing he could do to change this.
Long ago his parents had paid their price for falling in love. They had been dragged back to the Evil Shadowed Lupe Pack in shame, hunted down like the animals they were branded as. The ultimate price had to be paid for disobeying the ESLP Alphas. Kifa and Scale were Banished.
Cains birthright was their punishment he was born into servitude, starvation, and torture. All of those Banished by the ESLP were to receive the same barely any food, unchecked cruelty from full ESLP members, put to work at a moments notice.
You didnt start any lower than Cain started.
He hated the ESLP from the start. They were the ones who had done this to him, forced him into life in the dark tunnels of the Underground Network, kept him imprisoned between the spiked fences once the word there was done. Taking most of his mothers milk by force, elbowing his sister and little brother aside, he grew more than one might have expected but Kifa was a walking skeleton and what little milk she had dried up quickly. Cains growth would always be stunted. However, as he was expected to work as soon as he could walk, the ESLP did feed him a little more than they usually did, to ensure he did not drop dead on the job. During his early days at work enlarging the Underground Network, Cain would work silently and well, plotting against the ESLP as he developed slim muscles from the labor. He fought a lot with his sister Eve, who was outright disobedient and got into a lot of trouble. He was no ESLP-lover, but his sister was just plain foolish when it came to her rebellion from them. Cain himself had been known to snap, as evident by the scars winding across his young frame but he thought himself to have more sense than Eve. Loki, Cains younger brother, he just plain despised. Loki sucked up to both their parents and the ESLP. Cain had no tolerance for Loki.
He resented his parents. They were responsibly for this, why shouldnt he blame them? He had little to do with either of them after he stopped suckling.
Once the ESLP were content with their Network, the Banished family was sent to the newly-completed pen where their kind were to be kept form then on. Towering walls of spikes rose in all directions, the single gate was impossible to open from the inside.
And so, imprisoned here, Cain waited, watching the lives of those Banished and those outside the gate. Then came his idea. He had been good at digging all his short life, on account of his work in the Network. Why not put it to use?
The first tunnel he dug was a short one to the outside world. He was forced to make it to go down quite a way, as the fence was constructed of actual living trees and their roots were strong and healthy. Once under these, tunneling back up into the middle of a strategically-placed bush was easy enough. Cain and some of the more daring Banished used this tunnel frequently, although Cain was wary about letting others use his idea he knew the whole Banished group would suffer if the ESLP found out about it. The entrance was hidden inside the only shelter inside the spiked fence a monstrous hollow tree fallen upon its side. Cain took shelter in a short branch, and it was here he chewed away at the bark until he had a gap wide enough to accommodate his skinny frame.
As the pack outside prepared for war, dragging the Banished out to serve their numbers, Cain would meet another like himself, rich in quietly rebellious ideas. They would plot Cains next move, bigger and bolder, and the young Lupe would set his claws to work once more under the surface. The next stage of his plan for freedom would soon be underway.

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow is the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line of the edge
And where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's fucked up and everythings all right
Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive
And I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a..

My shadows the only one that walks beside me
My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone!

Cain has mixed feelings about his family.

Cain with his family

Scale and Kifa
He views both parents as weaklings. It is their fault he is in the mess he is; if they were smarter and stronger he would have been born normally. He has settled into a edgy state of ignoring his sire and dam. Long ago did he suck Kifa dry of her milk, the only useful thing she gave him. Long since had he stopped bothering to try and communicate with Scale, blind, mostly deaf, his tongue ripped out to ensure his only method of speech was grunts and gurgles. They are invisible to Cain now, and he shows no signs of wanting this to change.

Eve
Cain and his sister have a rocky relationship. They fight over anything and everything, argue about the best way to deal with their Banishment, and typically agree only on one thing the uselessness of their parents and younger brother.

Loki
Cain keeps a sharp eye on his youngest sibling, and not out of any form of brotherly protectiveness. He knows lurking below the soft dappled exterior of the angelic-faced Loki is the same ruthless intelligence possessed by he and Eve. Loki shows no visible sighs of hostility towards the ESLP for his Banished life, and so Cain waits and watches to see how his brother will use his wits.

There are others Banished with Cain and his family. Several older weaklings remind him of his parents and these he avoids. It is the young Lupines he has more interaction with.

Xix
This wild Lupess, who speaks rarely and relies on her claws and teeth to do her talking, Cain has a wary acceptance of. Her anger is easy enough to avoid and she has perhaps even spoke more than a snarled warning to him before. He permits her the use of his escape tunnel and she accepts with no word of thanks but also with no lashing of talons.

Quest
These two share what might even be classed as a friendship. They are bound together from their need to escape and wreck vengeance on the ESLP, and Quest shares the task of guarding Cains escape tunnel and permitting only those Cain wished through it. In return he is allowed access out into DarkForest, which he uses to hunt and build his strength. His Banished punishment was to have his wings torn off, and this act seems to anger him more than the actual imprisonment in the Banished Lands. However Cain is smart enough to recognize the streak of brashness running through Quest, and while they co-operate he is watching his friend as closely as he is Loki.
