*Tests of strength and long roads to recovery have finally passed, and he has set out upon the next path, heading towards something he hardly dares think about for fear he would wake to find it all a dream love*

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may, I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand, says you'll catch me
Whenever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near,
You drown out the crowd
(Drown out the crowd)
Try as they may, they can never define
What's been said
Between your heart and mine

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may, I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand, says you'll catch me
Whenever I fall
You say it best

~I love you Snowy. I always will, never doubt it~
True love

Bold now resides in Nantikan territory, slowly learning their ways and fitting in. It is not so different to his old pack really there are young pups here to steal his heart, wise alphas to turn to in times of need. There are meals to be hunted and prepared, jokes to tell and laugh at, and the knowledge that the pack is only as strong as the individuals who belong to it. And of course; in the Nantika Clan is Snowy. However lost he may feel at times, Bold knows he can rely on his mate.

While Bold struggles at times with his new vampric nature and all that comes with it, while he still sits alone at times and remembers back to old times with his family he is devoted to his life with the Clan and with Snowy. After a lifetime caring for young nieces, nephews and various other relatives, Bold is now expecting his own pups Snowy is pregnant, and while as always Bold worries for the safety of his new family there is nothing that could have made him happier.

Born in the house of human teenager Chris, owner of his parents, Bold enjoyed his life from the start. He got on well with his six siblings, taken the time for them each indivually. The youngest, Dreamer, was often found beside Bold. His protective streak applied greatly to her. He and Daring were often seen playfighting, or playing hide-and-seek with Fox_E and Friendly. Bold watched out for Hunter as he stalked up on visitor's shoes or neirbour's washing, and helped natural athlete Bounder set up his beloved jump course. A_E and Flamey, their parents were proud of their pups, and the nine were a loving family.

Bold with his siblings - Dreamer, Daring, Fox_E, Friendly, Hunter, and Bounder

When A_E's brother Lopey and his mate Blazey gave birth to pups, Bold found his first close friend in his eldest cousin Wolverine. The pair were very close and grew up together, hunting, roaming, and occasionally fighting others - mostly due to Wolverine's nature. There was never a time Bold would let Wolverine fight alone - and vice-versa. Though Wolverine was the warrior of the pair, Bold's size, strengh, determination, and heart made him a formidable oppernent.

Cousins, Bold with Wolverine

Then came the formationm of the Fire Eagles, the pack Bold's parents were Alphas of. The family moved, with some regret, from Chris's house to claim their own territory, and the Fire Eagles began. The whole family were loyal members of this pack, and it fast became what Bold looked upon as his home.

Bold and Wolverine with siblings

Since then, Bold is nearly always found with the pack. Earning the ranked spot of a Protector, he takes his job seriously. The Fire Eagles grew - indeed, to the extent they gained an enemy - and Bold grew with them. He was much the same as an adult he had been in his younger years... just slightly wiser and a touch less likely to repeat old mistakes.

The pack brought about a lifechanging situation for Bold. In the wild raging of a feirce storm, the past caught up with him. Another Lupine, on a quest for revenge, attcked Bold's soul, nearly killing him in the process. Bold lay near death's door... a normal Lupe no longer, his blood turned cold, his heart ceasing to beat... his fangs the long weapons of a Vampire.
Never again would life be normal.

Foxy

Bold in the Waterfall Valley with Foxy

When Bold was on one of his roaming trips with Wolverine, the pair stumbled upon a young doglefox. It took only a few kind words of Bold for the larger-than-average doglefox to decide he wanted Bold as his owner. Ever since, Bold was often seen with the playful, endearing, and comical green canine whom Bold named Foxy. Foxy very rarly left Bold's heels, no matter where he went, and Bold was extremely fond of his small companion.

Tragidy struck on the stormy eve that changed Bold's life forever. As the massive, hybrid vampric Lupine called Steel attcked Bold, Foxy bravely retaliated. Steel shook the doglefox off his forepaw with a grimace of pain, throwing him clear. While Foxy recovered, Steel's long fangs caught the nearing unconious Bold in the throat. Steel then released his victom, beleiving he had killed Bold.
Despratly trying to wake his master, Foxy fell to a dart thrown by Steel. Loosing his life by his master's side, loyal til the end.

Fire Family. Bold with sister Dante and their father A_E, with Foxy ever travelling with his master

Hello my friend, we meet again
It's been a while... Where should we begin? Feels like forever
Within my heart are memories
Of perfect love that you gave to me
Oh, I remember...
When you are with me, I'm free,
I'm careless, I believe
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice

We've seen our share of ups and downs
Oh, how quickly life can turn around
In an instant...

I just want to -
Say hello again
I just want to -
Say hello again

My sacrifice...

The Dream

The outside world saw a prone fire Lupe of ebon and ivorn, crimson and orange hues, motionless except for the occasional arduous rising and fall of his injured chest. Jean was pleased to see him breathing again no matter what the unknown capabilities of the vampric blood and god-knew-what-else Steel had forced into Bolds veins, nothing in Jeans experience or instincts as a healer considered the inability to breathe either natural or healthy. A corner of her mind wondered just how nessicary it was for him to breathe, now... her muzzle and forehead were creased with lines of worry for her cousin and not without good reason. When she changed the dressing on Bolds chest wound, a gaping, open gash, Jeans paw could not detect the methodical thumping that she should have. Bolds heart wasnt beating. Jean had doubts it ever would again. In her years as Pack Healer, shed never had to treat anything like this. Not that vamps were a rare occurrence living next-door to the ESLP, but this was more than just vampiric blood affecting her cousin. When Jean focused though she tried not to, such were her powers that using them had become a second nature she sensed Bolds mind. Her empathetic abilities reached across the frames of time and space, indeed with no resistance, and felt Bolds emotions. They flickered and fell like waves on a stormy ocean, the irrationality of emotions Jean knew belonged to the dreamworld. Bold had survived his ordeal so far but he wasnt having an easy time of things.
As the Healer tended to him, Bold's tortured and troubled mind sank deep into a long dream

Bold pounced at Chriss feet, finding a grin of delight on his face as she bent down to stroke her hand gently over his ebon head, scratching lightly behind his ears and making his thick tail sway. Youre getting bigger, boy, you know that? Youre bigger than any of the other pups I think youre going to look a lot like Eagle when you grow up! Bold licked her hands, tail waving faster. She was a human teenager, rebellious and independent, but fair, and kinder than many. She was Bolds human, his whole families' human, and not one of them wouldnt have given their life for her. Lopey would still be wandering the streets without Blazey, A_E would still be in the pound and never have met Flamey, their pups never born and Blazey and Lopeys unborn pups never had a chance at life if it had not been for Chris. Bold could feel nothing but pure affection for the human who had done nothing more than ensure that those in need of her help had gotten it.
Come on, Bold! Race you outside, lets go see what the others are doing! They bolted off side by side through the house to the garden, and the other pups outside.

Bold was in a void of nameless colours, swirled madly together around him. He watched the scene play before him and felt himself smiling, though when he looked down at his forepaws they shifted and blended into swirls of colour as if threatening to become part of the tornado of foreign rainbow. Looking up as the last images faded, Bolds smile turned into a thoughtful expression. His youngest sister Dreamer had told him that all dreams had meaning. Why then Chris? Well, she was the one responsible for saving his father and therefore, for Bold being born. Perhaps that was it, Bold thought. The void took on a green-brown hint until the colours swirled together with intent into another scene

Bold leapt a fallen log with ease. He was big now, approaching his mother in size and still growing. Full of the joy of youth, he turned and let out a proud, carefree bark. A young Wolverine responded with a gruffer, deeper, but no less spirited note. He was half as big as his cousin, the eldest of Blazey and Lopeys pups, born yellow but painted skunk early, and back then, going by a different name.
Thought you said you were fast, Logan?!
Putting on a sudden burst of speed, the white-pawed skunk Lupe bolted up towards Bold. They were both handsome creatures in colouring, each ebon, one with red and orange flames, and the other with white and gold markings.
Before Bold knew it Wolverine had overtaken him and kept going, his body supple and muscular even in youth, clearly marking the potential warrior.
Dont speak too soon, Bold Logan never was one to waste words. Bold just laughed, used to his resolutely compact cousin and friend. Pushing his bigger body into a run, he gave chase

The void with it's non-colour was back. Well, Wolverine had been his closest friend in their youth. Bold suddenly regretted not spending more time with him lately. Despite his wariness and tough nature, Wolverine was mated and with pups now half-grown. He had a few good friends Chance, Satin, Shultz. It was more than Bold had. He could call none his best friend, and as for a mate well. Dropping his muzzle and ignoring the rush of colours below it, Bold felt a stab of loneliness. Of course he had his family, but Wolverine was the one he was closest to, and Wolverine had his own life to lead. And where was he? The void crashed down into a tangle of dark tunnels as the thought passed, dumping Bold in the middle of them. There was no light, but Bolds illusory paws did not touch the ground, likewise did his nonexistent eyes need light to see.
Is this what that scene was meant to show me? Bold whispered without a voice. That Im alone?
The tunnels swirled, adapting to natural forest colours as the next scene started. But there were smaller dashes of colour, faint and misty like Bolds memory

He had been with relatives, exploring just outside the newfound territory of the newly-formed Fire Eagle Lupe Pack. They had run into four Lupes, two males and two females, a red, a blue, a yellow and a green. Oh, it was she who had Bolds eyes. Her words held him spellbound; her sparkling eyes doubled his heartbeat when they turned as they often did towards him. But it was her smile that took his breath away. He was sure that was what had given her her name: Dazzle. She was dazzling all right, especially to the young adult Fire Lupe. The conversation lasted for an hour, but the friendly bantering of the two families was nothing compared to what passed, so quickly yet so strongly, between Bold and that dazzling Lupine femme. Both sides noticed and both sides teased.
Come on, when are you going to ask her to be your mate, then?
She blushed and he laughed, but what had been a joke Bold suddenly realized as reality. A picture of Daring, the next eldest of the litter after himself, came into Bolds head. Daring was grinning, a simple, joy-filled gesture of happiness as he turned his head, eyes locked on the slender cloud Lupess beside him his mate Swift. Bold realized he wanted that happiness, and when he looked into Dazzles eyes, he could see it.
And he asked her. And she accepted.
Then they had to go, Bold knew that they had stayed too late out already. I shall be back here tomorrow I shall see you then! He called to Dazzle, ignoring the double burst of good-natured insults from either side.
But tomorrow was not to be. Though he returned, she did not, and every time he returned, and every time he searched, far and wide, asking any and every he met tomorrow never came. Bold never did see her again, and days melted into months that became years. Years.

Bolds muzzle dropped further until, if it had been able, it would have touched the stone floor below him. Dazzle why didnt you come back? He murmured in misery, depression sinking in further. Dazzle's disappearance had hurt him more than anyone knew. Had that been his chance, his one shot, which hed messed up? Could it have been that easy, a chance meeting on a sunny day when he was only a few months an adult?
The rock wall spun as the next scene approached. She had not loved him. She had been little more than a pup, playing pup games. And Bold had been caught in the play.

Not quite an adult, Bold waited patiently by the Dens entrance. It was a lucky find, this Den, the Fire Eagles within days of being formed this time. Bold realized this scene had slid backwards this was a few months or so before he met Dazzle. He watched as the imaged flicked before him.
He knew Wolverine would not be too long out, not with the imminent storm. But when he returned it was not alone, but with a small, ivorn Lupine, wiry and fit, perhaps a little apprehensive at the crowd of Bolds family, but he had a good nature and spirit. Wolverine introduced the Lupine to Bold and the others. Satin's Knight was his name, though it was the simpler name Satin that Bold, Wolverine and the family would grow to know him as.
Satin sat beside Wolverine and Bold as the storm raged outside, telling them a little of his life and hearing a little of theirs in return. Again, it was Bolds eyes that turned to the entrance first when a second newcomer appeared. This one was a pup, looking somewhat akin to a drowned rat due to the lashing rain outside, but nevertheless, she was a pretty little thing. She was white, azure flames splashing her pelt. Satin explained this was his daughter Snowy as she scampered in, staring with wide jaden eyes at all the Lupes present, to sit at her fathers side. She never spoke a word, but Satin gave the explanation to this she could not. Jean, young but ever the Healer, took a medical interest, asking Satin if there was anything she could do that might help. Satin thanked her, but declined Snowy's was not a medical problem, and no remedy of Jeans known then or now would ever help her. Bold remembered watching the youngster, amazed she had found her way through the wind and rain, impressed by her strength of mind.
The pair departed after the storm, sent with good wishes and the offer for both to return whenever they wished. Bold watched them go with a smile and a quietly waving tail, and sleep well that night.

Bold managed a faint smile as the dark rock tunnels set in again. A happier memory, at least. The first time he had met Satin and Snowy time had changed Satin greatly. Bold knew him now as the Delta male of the Fire Eagles, a decent Lupe still, loyal if a little withdrawn, and lacking nothing in courage. He was Wolverine's closest friend. And Snowy, of course time had seen her change from a pretty little pup into a truly beautiful adult. Though Bold knew shed suffered because of it many male Lupes had thought the same but not seen past that pelt, when she was young. Such thoughts cuased the hair along Bold's neck and spine to bristle. Life had not been any easier on Snowy than on her father, and the last time Bold had seen her, trouble had rested in those deep jade eyes. He felt another stab of regret. She lived a long way off now, with her pack, her mate, and her pups, whom were probably fully grown themselves, by now. She visited her father often, and he had always made time to seek her out and greet her when she arrived or departed Fire Eagle territory. She communicated through telepathy, which made sense to Bold considering her muteness and the power he suspected she had in such areas as the mind.
Bold felt a sudden sense of forbidding for Snowy, suspended there in the maze of tunnels. He did not think life had finished its hardships for her
He barely noticed when the tunnel spun once more. Faster this time, more flashes of memory

He had met a few in his years. Wildfire he remembered quite clearly, he had met with her and heard her tragic tale of her son and first mate, promised to help her get her pup back if he could. He had tried, searching far and wide for news without luck. Later news of her was that she had become mate to a Lupe he knew of, if had not met his brother Friendly had a mate called Tinsel, and some of Tinsels siblings joined the Fire Eagles with her. Moth, one of the elder of these siblings, was Wildfires mate. They had pups too, now.
Griff, his first meeting with the uncertain crimson Lupine, on the run from an evil brother. Worried about his siblings, worried Killer would catch him and A_E had accepted him into the pack without hesitation. He had grown, and fit in well with the pack. A friendly creature, fiercely loyal to the pack. He too, now had a mate, Psylocke, a warrior of the Fire Eagles, and they were expecting pups.
That first far off meeting with Shultz and Mav, when cruel Slager had put in an unwelcome appearance, and he and Wolverine had watched with Mav, each ready to back up Shultz at any moment as he accepted Slagers challenge. It was Shultz and Mavs family who would start the Mt. Desri Lupe Pack, joint pack to the Fire Eagles. Mav, kind, good natured, but protective, as Shultz was, of her family in times of need. Shultz, sullen and withdrawn, gruff with a good heart under those battle scars of his. He could have been Wolverines twin in personality, and even the two skunk Lupes build was similar - Wolverine simply marked with gold and ivory while Shultz was not.
A yellow Lupine, a scar under one eye. Easygoing and good-natured Lifechance would prove the first to join the Fire Eagles who was not a member of Bolds family. He met with Bold and each of his siblings at the time, each welcoming him in their own way.
Flashes of faces once met and never seen again, conversations with strangers both brief and lengthy, those met when Bold wandered out of Fire Eagle territory, and those hed met, his packmates, within it.

The darkness returned and Bolds head hung again. What had he done wrong? His brothers and Tinsel and Swift, Wolverine, Griff and Psy, Snowy, Wildfire and Moth, even Shultz had mates of their own. Many of them, families. Bold curled up miserably, unable to fight the feeling any longer, despair filling him, flooding him. He was alone. He might have the odd friend back in a world that had faded, and left nothing but out-of-this-world voids and endless tunnels he could not escape from. But here, trapped here with visions playing before him, there was nothing and no one. Would there ever be again? What if he never got out of here, never got the second chance? Would a Lupess ever return his love, share joys and sorrows with him, lean on his shoulder for or to give support, bear their own pups together?
Or was this his life now? Down here where no light shone and once again the walls ran together

It was dark, but not lightless. It was the dark of night on the highest peak of the Wilderness Mountain Range, Eagle Peak. The name was fitting for the occasion. The midnight blue of the sky was dotted with stars, lighting the way for the three Lupines making their way to the rocky summit of the mountain, highest point for miles around. A_E led the way, picking the safest route for his brother and son. Lopeys golden eyes turned to check on Bold bringing up the rear, smiling at the young Lupe. Bold smiled back at his uncle, excitement bristling through his fur. This was going to be a night for memories...
At last, they were at the top. A_Es smile matched his relatives. You two ready?
Lopey chucklesd Born ready, Brother.
Bold just grinned and nodded. He was honored his father had asked him to come along on this expedition. A_E nodded. Drawing in a breath, he lifted his muzzle to the starry sky and closed his deep, dark brown eyes.
A howl split the air. Proud, untamed and powerful, his voice flew down the mountains, over them, and beyond them. From below the mountian, where Bold knew his family was assembled, Flameys beautiful answering howl rang out. Bold's fur stood on end to hear his parent's voices fill the night sky.
Howling the start of the Fire Eagles
When the pair stopped it was Lopeys turn, as Alpha advisor. His tone was not as deep as A_Es, a lighter, more mystical howl; nevertheless it carried within it the same force. It was Blazey, naturally, who replied. Her howl was gentle and sweet by comparison of the others, a true symbol of her personality.
As the pairs howls died out, Bold took a deep breath. This was it. His moment. He lifted his head and howled, and in his howl sang all the feeling in his heart. The love of his family and owner, the pride of his place with them, and the joyfulness, energy and eternal valor with which he faced his life.
The first reply was from where Flamey and Blazeys had come. A fierce, wild, free, voice it was, a howl that could almost have been a battlecry. Bold knew Wolverines voice. Then A_E and Lopeys howls blended with his and Wolverines in a powerful quartet. Then Flameys howl, and Blazeys, joined in. One almost identical to Bolds, his brother Daring. A natural, musical howl, their sister Fox_E, and then another and another voice joined until all the individual, unique howls of the family merged to sing a song of all that they loved, all that they felt, saw and heard, and to celebrate and announce one very, very significant event.
The start of the Fire Eagles Lupe Pack.

Bold felt unexpected tears come into his eyes. He remembered that night, his feelings, so strongly. It had meant so much to him. What had happened to that feeling, that had filled and overflowed him when he first voiced that howl? He was not left to ponder it.

The walls did not shift and blend together this time. Bold knew at once, this was no next scene; he was still in the maze. Simply, down one of the tunnels, a Lupess appeared. Bold lifted his head, staring in disbelief. He was not alone down here! And what was more, he knew the slightly below-average sized Lupess, her ebon coat ablaze with flame, refined and collected as she smiled back at him. Mav! Mav, I thought there wasnt another living soul down here! Bold exclaimed, laughing in his relief, bounding towards her. Where did you come from and more important, how do we get out?!
Her smile widened, but she said nothing, merely picked a different tunnel and started along it silently. Bold stopped, puzzled. This wasnt like Mav. Wait, Mav, hang on! Where are you going?
When he got no response, he took off after her, catching a glimpse of her flamed tail heading around the corner up ahead. He could never seem to catch her, yet whenever a branch or extra turn appeared in the maze, Mav could just be seen making her way down one of them. Bold followed her for what seemed like hours, relying on her lead. Then, he stopped. Ahead was a treble split in the tunnel, and Mav wasnt there. He did not catch so much of a glimpse of her this time. Despairing, he called for her.
Mav! Mav, where are you, which way do I take?
There wasnt an answer. Not one with words. Bold suddenly realized there was a very, very faint light down the rightpaw tunnel. His hope returning, Bold took that passage. Though it branched and split as often as the others, he always took the one with the ever-growing light down it. And, at last, at thankful long last, a patch of green, and strong unhindered daylight could be seen. The tunnels had ended. Bold bolted down the tunnel, paws not acutaly, as they always had been, meeting the ground that was not ground. His spirit soared as he emerged in to the daylight, blinking. As sure as this was grass under his paws, he knew Mav would be waiting for him up here, her smile wide now they were up in fresh air once more. She would explain things, tell him why she would not speak before and what she'd been doing down in those tunnels which he had before, been certain were meerly a part of his own mind, and let him know how she knew the way out of them.
Mav, look, I made it! He cried, at the same time realizing something was wrong. In this unfamiliar, wide, grassy meadow, there wasnt anyone to be seen for as far as the eye reached. A few minutes walk away the meadow ended in a ring of dark shrubs. A single tree reached for the cloudless sky.
Mav?
He could plainly see, there was nowhere whatsoever for so much as a pup to hide behind. Once more, he was alone, and his muzzle drooped, unable to feel the grass that met it.
You led me to the light, Mav, thank you. Thank you so much. But where do I go now?
As he stared around, the sun started to set without much colour. Bold shivered at the cold wind. Turning a circle, he dropped to his belly and curled up, tail over his muzzle for warmth. Perhaps if he tried to sleep, he would wake up where he would feel the gras under him, a place that he could be sure was not part of his imagination, somewhere he would not be alone

He screamed aloud as the demon, seemingly comprised of shadow, advanced towards him. He lashed out with a paw, but the demon went grey and his paw when through the shadow-beast. It reached towards him with its talons, speaking threatening words Bold could not understand. He howled in horror and backed away, but there was suddenly nowhere to run to. How do you run from your own mind, from what runs within your own blood?

Steel snickered. "Gotcha good, didn't I? I swore to kill you, because you were there, you helped kill my brother. But I think this is more fun. Oh, don't despair, little Boldy-brave-boy. I'll still kill you, death will be your punishment. But hey, I'll let you suffer first. Enjoy yourself - and watch that demon. Nasty-looking thing. Think of me when you find the bodies of your flamed friend, your cousin and his skunk shadow, won't you?."

Brute laughed, sneering at him. "Your pack will fall, Bold. Your father is a fool to think he can stand against the might of the Evil Shadowed Lupes, and he will pay. Your siblings, your family, and all that you care about will die, when the red mood rises. That is the time we will take your pack, with the Lupine Terrors and out new Bleeding Moon allies running beside us. Make no mistake, your pack will perish..."

Bold struggled against the demon. It had a metallically hint over the living shadow, and it was strong, so strong. Bold felt his own strength ebbing away, things blurring before his eyes - then his mind started to forget and darkness took over.

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core
Where Ive become so numb
Without a soul
My spirit sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and lead it back home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name, and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing Ive become

Now that I know what Im without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name, and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing Ive become

Frozen inside
Without your touch
Without your love
Darling, only you
Are the life among the dead

All this time I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
Ive been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more
Bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I cant wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
Call my name, and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
Bid my blood to run
(I cant wake up)
Before I come undone
(Save me)
Save me from the nothing Ive become

(Bring me to life)
Ive been living a lie
Theres nothing inside
(Bring me to life)

Nightmare's End

*The sun was rising. The moon had gone full circuit three times since the current occupants first entered the den nestled at the base of Hawk Hill. While a maroon-pelted Lupess, a small pure ivory femme, and a rangy skunk male all of Lupine species frequently came and went, the last Lupine inhabitant of the cave had not moved for the three months.
Bold was dying.
The sunrise was oddly crimson, reluctantly lifting above the horizon line over the plains to chase away the stars. Far up on the summit of the tall hill, where a solitary, stately old oak tree grew, a raptorial face appeared from the branches. Red sunrise fire reflected in the golden and ebon eyes. This was no Airax, no pet this was a raven-black namesake of the hill.
The Hawks wings spanned close to that of an eagle. Unfolding them majestically, the bird preened until the red sun rose fully up into the pale sky, the crimson fading slowly. Dropping from his nest, the hawk spread his wings wide and soared high off into the misty morning autum sky. Outside the dens entrance, a fair-sized opening into a short tunnel to the wide cave, a Kougra lay. Silver fur was dusted with dewdrops, patient, infinitely kindly and sagelike golden eyes were awaiting the arrival of the Lupine making her way over the damp grass. The ebon-striped Alpha of the Hawk Hill Pride nodded*
~Good morning to you Dreamer, I hope the wind and the weather find you well~
*Dreamer, small in stature, ivorn fur completely unmarked or unvaried, smiled back at the feline* ~Thankyou Cougar. I hope both find my brother well too~
*The cave was dark, but luminescent light reflected from the walls. There was no need for Dreamer to duck her head under the spacious entrance. The Hawk Hill Kougras were a small pride, but their den was sizeable, to say the least. Jean had sensed her cousins arrival, and was slowly lifting a weary skull from where it rested on her slim forepaws*
~Dreamer - still no change, I'm afraid~
*Dreamer sighed, her gaze of crystalline blue falling on the eldest of her brothers.
Bolds breathing had once again ceased to match his lack of heartbeat, causing Jean more worry although she knew he was fully vampric now. His wounds were painfully slow to heal and the open tears on his chest were weeping. Eyes closed, Bold lay unmoving, his once muscular form seeming no more alive that the rock wall around them or the bed of rushes and moss he lay upon.
Bold was well past deaths door. Bold was lying in the demons reach

*The femme is lithe and lovely, unmarred by the horrors of her own past and darkened mind. Carried upon ivorn paws--the azure flames died down to mere embers along her pads and tailtip--the tattooed lupess gives a nod of silent greeting to Cougar before slipping past him and joining the femmes she has known most of her life. She is settled unobtrusively away from them, plume wrapped about her slim frame, her personal mark brilliant along her cheek. It was this tattoo--or, rather, what it stood for--that brought her here today. The mark of the mind...if only her alpha had known how far that meaning stretched.*

-=Morning=- *She addresses each in turn, smiling slightly; Dreamer was a little easier to reach with her mindspeech, and she could feel the slightest touch of reciprocal thought--something that happens with a select few, a sort of wash of mind powers. She turns her gaze to Bold, her eyes darkening, her singly-pierced ears folding back to her skull*

*Snowy had, in truth, always been fond of Bold...there had been a time, long ago, when she had a small crush on him; she regarded him as both a friend and an elder, and knew she owed him in part for the saving of her father's life--she owed all of the pack for this. And now, to see him like this--destroyed, broken, fallen--was pulling at heartstrings she did not know were intact. Focusing her eyes upon him, she tentatively sends out her mind, probing his thoughts--trying to see what, if anything, she could do.*

*Jean smiles, lifting a paw in a quick wave. By the small stream bubbling up from some underground source, she was mixing herbs and plants. Trying yet another remedy out for Bold* ~Good morning Snowy~ *Dreamer greets softly, managing a small smile. She was genuinely pleased to see Snowy but worry for her brother was clouding her thoughts, and he wasnt getting any better. Dreamers soft blue gaze turned to Bold once more. Padding to his side, she placed down the object she held in her paw a small, pale yellow rose by his head. Gently smoothing the fur on his forehead, she stared down at him and felt his unconscious mind lift again. Though she did not posses Jeans powers, and nothing near Lopeys, Dreamer did boast something unusual the ability to watch anothers mind while it slept, see what they saw in the world of dreams... and nightmares*

Bold opened his deep, dark brown eyes. He was weary, he never did sleep well here. Here was the shrub-shrouded meadow he had emerged into after Mav had led him back to the light. His only shade was a medium-sized, nondescript tree of no particular species which bore no flower or fruit, naught but small, solid dark-green leaves. Whenever Bold tried to travel to the border of plants, the meadow-grass invisibly receded before his flamed paws and the shrubs grew no closer. Inevitably, Bold had no choice but to return to the solitary tree and await the colourless sunset.

Bold did not fear the dark. The light revealed only that there was not another living soul to be found if he still was, of course, alive. It was disturbing how his paws could not feel the landscape about him, how there was no scents and the only natural sound was the high whistle of the wind.
In truth, Bold suspected he was no longer alive and that was the reason both he and his tormentor were here. He even doubted the life of the plants for, though the chill wind howled incessantly, Bold had yet to see a blade of grass or a leaf disturbed by the breeze. Like the tree, no plant ever gave flowers or fruit, either. No, it was not the landscape nor the dark of night Bold feared it was what it brought.
He was left alone to pace the day away until, with its stark lack of colour, the sun dropped from view. Another night would begin and the demon came for Bold. He knew there was nowhere to run, knew the uselessness of trying by now. It was equally hopeless fighting the shadow-beast, but Bold could do nothing more but try. Such he did tonight, as he always did, but as always tooth and claw passed straight through the demon, as always. Like it was made of black, solid water.
It was fearsome looking, with leering teeth and holes instead of eyes, seemingly comprised of flexible, impenetrable shadow with the faintest hint of metal. Talons longer than Bolds tail would claw at him, through the barrier of his flesh, drawing closer and closer to its target every night Bolds heart.
This night, things did not go the same way.
Half paralyzed as the demon clawed into his chest, Bold felt his own mind show him a flash he would have said a memory, but this scene was nothing his own mind had yet seen, he was certain.

-He pressed close, felt the warmth of her fur against his, her cheek pressed into his neck. With a sudden lovely smile she pulled back, her features hidden and misted. Her words were so soft they might have been passed off as a whisper of wind in the treetops, and yet the voice was so tender, spoken with more inner strength than could ever be comprehended. I love you Fiercely he hugged her to him, as if he never wished to let go. He did so slowly, almost seeming surprised she was still standing there in front of him, as if hed expected her to disappear. Raising a large paw, he touched her face, so gently, and she lifted her muzzle to touch the tip of his. I love you too-

It came and was gone within a heartbeat he no longer felt - but behind it if left Bold filled with enough raw emotion to let him roar aloud at the demon before him. Snarling, Bold threw himself backwards, filled with an inner rage and power that shocked him. He felt the demons pawings towards his heart slide from his flesh, then his own paw was swinging in a wide arc, claws extended and facing the demon, bringing his body into a low crouch before powerful hindlegs dug sharply into the terra and leapt, adding force to the blow.
For the first time his paw did not simply pass through the beast as Friendly playfully pawing at a miniature waterfall. Bold felt his claws dig in, then tear through icy cold shadow alight with black flame, penetrating the demons flesh. The scream rage, terror, pain, threat, death and darkness combined not even a scream but a raw blast of sound and energy directed straight to Bolds mind from the demons sent the fire Lupine hurtling backwards. His paw felt as if it were on fire yet numb at the same time, and he gave a groan of pain as unmended ribs shifted and unhealed muscle was stretched. Bold scrambled back onto his paws, desperately flexing the left forepaw. Well, pain was a good indicator that he was at least still partially attached to the world of the living...
The shadow demon was gone. Bold felt back against the untouchable tree trunk with a tremble of exhaustion - but for the first time since his fight with Steel, Great Seasons knew how long ago the despair had left him.
Upon striking the demon, Bold had absorbed some knowledge of it, and taken the first terrible, tentative step towards knowing his enemy. A part of the demon was inside Bold. The demon was a soul-seek, chosen of his kind to locate and capture souls for a purpose Bold could not comprehend. The beast was one of many cursed to live in the realm between life and pastliving the realm Bold was now trapped in. The Lupine was shocked as he viewed some of the demons memory of his own kind. They were diversely individual, a thousand personalities. This soul-seek was a group member, though some were loners. There was a hierarchy, an measure of order and ritual, and even family?
The shock cut Bold deeply. These were not ungoverned killers, who simply tortured unduly and hunted the innocent at least, not all of them. These demons lived no, not life, but existed very akin to Lupes.
The indents of shadow, depressions and suggestions of what face the soul-seek demon possessed slid into place.
It was a Lupe.

*Snowy was catching parts of this, the majority of the dream as conveyed through emotion and disjointed images. Her frame stiffens, flames slowly creeping up her limbs, engulfing the four blue marks on her inner forepaw, sliding up her maw and licking at her personal mark. She is in a strange limbo between consciousness and Bold's mind, and that part of her own mind--something alien and yet familiar--knew much of what would happen before she or Bold did. The knowledge of the demon's nature floods through her mind, mingling deeply with old memories she, too, had never felt. This was all familiar...so very, very familiar. Her ears sweep forward, and even as Bold has his final revelation she jerks back to full consciousness, her mind reeling. The burns...she would look for the burns.*

*That distinct muzzle, the soft pattern of fur, pricked ears, rounded eyes oh, they were warped and shadowed, but there. The demon soul-seek was, or had been, one of his own species.

Bold did not sleep the remainder of that night, nor did he pace the next days sunlight hours away. Oblivious to the meadow around him, Bold became lost in his own mind. The emotions that had inspired him to strike the demon had not left him indeed, it intensified and left filled Bold with a relentless determination. Tonight, it would end.

He tried to recall the flash, the memory, the faces of the two Lupines. They twisted and drifted around his mind, vague figures without much detail. It was the male whose image became clearer first. Red and orange flames spread over sleek ebon. Bold studied his own flamed forepaws. Was it him? He concentrated hard on the hazy image. The fire Lupe seemed to radiate some deep inner power, dignity, trustworthiness, and an immeasurable nobility. No, it was not him, Bold realized, the hint of a smile twitching on his lips. It was his father. He nodded, smiling fully that was it. Which meant the female he loved was his mother now Bold pieced this together, he could catch the faint traces of ivory fur and hints of flame.
Bold with his parents
He felt a wave of gratefulness towards his parents for giving him strength followed by a wave of homesickness Bold felt like breaking down and sobbing. Oh, how he missed his family and his pack! A_E, always so calm and wise as he ensured the well being of the pack. Flamey always at his side, laughing and playing with their newest litter. He missed welcoming back Daring and Bounder after their travels, missed cheering on Fox_E and Storm in their wild boisterous wrestling matches, missed seeing the many pups play and learn and grow. Bold found himself holding back tears. The memories of his family were so vivid he could almost see little Creamy in front of him, his youngest sister, capering after her closest littermate, silver-flecked Frost. If he closed his eyes, he could nearly heard Wolverines gruff, deep tones instructing Darian and Shadow or Kometto or Rocky. Arrow, his starry brother, bounding at his side with sparkling blue eyes and a contended grin. The faces were familiar, the personalities all part of Bolds memories. All he had left of his former life a life he didnt know if he would ever find again.
Bold scrambled suddenly to his paws, and as the memories started to fade he became aware of his surroundings. With a stunning blaze of crimson, the sun was setting. The elated emotions of combined pride, determination, resolute, and love for his pack welled up inside him. Striding forwards from the solitary tree and leaving his fears with it, Bold lifted his muzzle to the raging sunset to release a howled war-cry.
As a pup he had always felt somewhat embarrassed and foolish when Chris or his parents used his full title, instead of merely BB_Bold10. But now he felt only fierce anger against the demon and the forces keeping him here, and he felt the will of his sought after soul rising within him. Blood-red filled his deep liquid-brown orbs, and he bared his fangs as he flung his challenge at the unfelt wind.*
~I am Brave Boy Bold Ten! Named by Chris and son to American Eagle and Flamey, my soul is MY OWN and any who wish to possess it must first break it! I will fight to the death if needs be, for I am Bold and I do not fear! Come, Soul-seek, my own demon self! Do not hide in the dark, I know you watch me! Come and claim my soul!~
And with a guttural growl, the demon slid from the underworld to the undeads realm, and for the final time, it faced Bold.
Bold went straight for it. Each mind and body guarding each soul, they battled. Splitting pain raced through Bold as the demon tried to seize his mind with its own, trying to freeze his reactions. The Lupine barely had time to dodge the talons aimed at him, directed towards his neck with severe strength. The power of a demon far surpasses that of a mortal but Bold no longer was a mortal. He struck back with a strong forepaw but missed, slowed by the attack. Drawing on reserves on energy and throwing himself backwards, he broke the mind attack. There was no time for elation. Bold had not realized the demon had a tail, let alone one spiked with four metallic barbs longer than his muzzle. These hurtled towards Bolds head, trimming the fur on his forehead and brushing his skull as he ducked, dropping into a crouch with paws ready beneath him. If his ears had not been pinned back in anger and adrenaline he would have lost them.
Bold swiped at the retreating tail, muscles still bunched into a crouch, before the demon swung back to face him. Cold rage filled Bold and before he knew it, the vampire blood in him, new but extraordinarily strong, had risen. He was tearing into the demons throat, full vampric fangs extended, snarling lowly.
There was a heavy, dull thump as the soul-seeks body hit the ground, Bold still perched atop with his fangs embedded in its neck. He could taste blood, drank his first meal since being Turned, and felt, somehow, renewed strength flowing in his veins. Life, somehow pulled from the dying demon, was being given back to Bold.
Then Bolds large paws thumped into the dirt as the carcass disintegrated into smoke and shadow and evaporated under him. Bolds knees trembled and he felt himself sink to the ground, exhaustion seizing him in a great wave. His muscles ached, his head split few survived the physical or mental attacks of a demon and Bolds victory had drained him. He would have slept then and there in the last faint rays of the red sinking sun, had the second demon not fastened its talons around his neck, slowly closing them and lifting Bold back to his paws. He felt the keen claw edge slice into him, and gave a choking cry. He struggled, weakly. It was a different demon the tail was shorter and did not bare metal blades but a pale golden spike. Now Bold knew what to look for the shaded facial features could be seen as Lupine.
Bold felt his small energy reserves draining away. Just as the soul-seek demon had fed on his fear, this new demon thrived on his exhaustion, but he could not stop it. To beat one demon was a near impossible feat. There was nothing near about defeating two. Bold had nothing left.

*Dreamer jerked backwards, having been watching the whole thing. With a sob, she seized Bolds paw, desperately barking his name and calling to him* ~Bold, no, dont let it win! Please Bold!~ *Helplessly, she stared pleadingly at Jean and Snowy, begging them* ~Help him, please, oh please help him, hes going to die..~ *Jean was at her two cousins sides, staring down at Bold carefully. With her innate mind not nearly as powerful as the mute femme beside her, but still strong in her own way she focused and felt Bolds strength ebbing away, his fear and misery and longing to live* ~He is fading~ *She said softly, unable to believe it. Closing her eyes, she concentrated harder than she ever had, trying, trying to no avail. She could not reach his mind, could not lend him strength, or bring him back. He was going to die and she was helpless! Tears filled her eyes, but remembering again Snowy next to her, Jean turned and addressed the blue-flamed Lupess* ~Snowy is there something, anything, you can do? Can you reach him?~

*Snowy had fallen back from him, both physically and mentally, in horror and exhaustion. The flames were vibrant along her frame now, however, threatening to consume her body as they so often did when she was distressed. But not all of her mind had been taken from Bold's dreams, and as the second demon appears in her vision, a part of her jerks to full waking.

When Cyphiro had died in her mind, something of hers had been taken, replaced with his mind, his memories, his knowledge. And now, after so long of being hidden in the darkest recesses of her thoughts, this shadowy ghost of Cyphiro rises upward and charges.

It is impossible, so very illogical...but as Bold fades, another figure appears, leaping, claws extended, acid-white maw curled back, fangs bared. The eyes, once a lovely pale gold, are blank now, and his frame radiates emptiness--but he knocks into the demon attacker, ripping teeth into the same shadowy material as he is now made of.

Snowy's frame collapses to the earth, shaking; this was more power than she had ever used by herself...when she had called to her Father, drawing him from death's door, he had come somewhat more easily--and then she had had Ulryk. Now she was alone, terribly alone...except, perhaps, for a whispering comfort in the earth itself, earth touched and governed by the shield. Her mind twists, part of her fighting within Cyphiro's ghost, falling blank as she watches and feels all that's going on.

But she is far within Bold's mind, further even than she had been in Cyphiro's...and if Bold were to die....
....she would go with him*

*With a harsh roar the second demon dropped Bold. He hit the ground silently, deaths cloud misting over his deep eyes. The demon extended a long talon, glaring at Cyphiro, then swipes the other away from him with about as much effort is used to pick Bold up. Growling in some guttural form of language, the demon shook its shadowy head a solitary time. Swinging back to face Bold, frowns etched heavily over it. Lifting a taloned hand and holding it outright to Cyphiro, in the symbol to stop he bent over Bold. Breath was coming in ragged gasps and back in the cave Jean desperately tried to calm him. The emotions of death from her cousin suddenly washed over her in a great wave, catching her unaware, and Jean fell back gasping. Dreamer stared form Snowy to Bold, pleading silently oh Ntura give them strength, please let them both be alright
Bold opened his eyes. There were shadows, demons, the awful meadow he was stuck in and- yaaah! Bold yelped aloud and Jean jumped. Bold tried to shield his throat, but the strong arm shoved his weak paw aside. He felt the talon nick his throat, groaning and then nothing.

Bold opened his eyes a second time. The untouchable meadow was still there, the new demon who had appeared as if from nowhere but the second demon was gone. Disappeared. Chest heaving from fear and exhaustion, Bold tried to stand and failed. He looked around, eyeing the other with uttermost finality. This was it. He could feel his own strength slipping, as he could feel the trickle of blood down his neck. A broken sigh escaped him, paw stretched out to nothing* ~I I didnt want to die here~ *The whimper was the voice of a newborn pup, nothing of Bolds former strength and life but the faintest shadow to be heard*

*Snowy had collapsed, her flames rolling over her frame, coiling about her fur wildly. Her eyes roll up partially in her head and she seems to shudder--but the earth beneath her seems to grow warmer, with something of an aura of strength, and she seems to draw from it.

Cyphiro, or what could be Cyphiro, is standing in the corner of this dream world, head bowed, coughing up blood; an ear flicks back against his lithe skull, and he looks at Bold. Acid-white maw opened to speak, words escape him--but they are in Snowy's effeminate mindspeech*
"Bold. I'm here--you're not alone. We have to get out of here; we can fight together."

*Disbelieving, not daring to hope, Bold turns his head, staring at Cyphiros figure. The faint recognition dawns, and the voice oh, could anything be any sweeter to his ears he knew that voice. Twisting his large form, muscles wasting away and ribs starting to show under the thinning fur, he tried to rise to his paws, managing a faint, faint grin as they failed him once more* ~Snowy oh Snowy, its good to~ *He started to cough himself, great racking breaths which shook his whole body* ~You~ *Panic suddenly spread over his face, realizing, realizing who the figure she had taken was and exactly what she must be doing to reach him* ~Snowy, you have to get out! Itll trap you!~ *He tried to drag himself over, pitifully, to Snowy* ~Please go back~

I can't do that." *her voice is simple, resonating from Cyphiro's strong frame in an odd manner* "I simply cannot. They're missing you, out there. They're worried." *A waver, a step forward* "It's been a long time, Bold...it's time we got home. Together."

*His eyes remained open through great force, trying another smile towards her* ~Time it had been far too long. Snowy~ *Pausing to cough again, he looks back up and meets her eyes, battered form heaving to his paws with a sudden, fierce burst of strength. That emotion flowed through him, proud and strong in an echo of his life, the emotion that had caused him to strike the demon for first time. His muscles shook, ears flopping to either side of his skull and standing tall, he took the few steps over to Snowys form* ~Perhaps it was not my mother and father~ *He murmured, fighting waves of darkness as they crept up on him. But no, there was something else, something new, that emotion was back and filling him with fresh hope* ~I really wasnt looking forward to dying here~ *With a crocked weary grin, he let his head hang a little* ~I hate to ask it do you know the way home?~

*She approaches at last, touching her alien maw to Bold's shoulder; there is an amused, indisposed expression on Cyphiro, and a dark chuckle that is distinctly not Snowy. It's a miracle she, too, has not been driven mad...* "Come, Bold...I think I might just have an idea."

*Cyphiro's ambling form slinks toward the tree, moving effortlessly across the earth--earth that is slowly breaking up in its solidity, slowly becoming misty and dreamlike. His form begins to fade, drifting into the mass of surreal images...and after a moment, he is gone. Snowy's frame twitches, and she inhales sharply, a painful gasp. Her paw twitches, and the flames die immediately, leaving her an ivory void, marked only by her tattoos*

*With a sharp intake of breath, horror transforming his face, Bold leapt forwards, grabbing desperately at Snowy, protests dying on his lips with Cyphiros form, she stood a chance in the realm between life and death. In her form no. Bold would not see her harmed, not after she had come for him, rescued him, saved his very soul* ~Snowy, close your eyes. Let go of my mind. We are going home. We are going home. We are-~ *He wrapped both his forepaws around her, squeezed his own eyes closed and silently pushed down his vampiric side, the side of him that had kept him residing here. It had controlled him, kept him here by force he would never let it win over him again. The Soul-seek had wanted him for a reason. He HAD a soul, and by the raging fire he would fight for it!
Jean drew in her breath sharply and nudged Dreamer. The ivory femme gasped in surprise, tears of happiness springing into her eyes as Bolds deep dark brown eyes opened, head tilted, rolling weakly to flash a faint shadow of a grin at those assembled. Finally Bold had come home*

Hope for the Future

Love
Snowy has been a part of Bolds life since he was a young adult, and although they could not have been called close in younger years they were friends, aware of one another and wishing each other well as they set about their lives. When Bold feared for his soul, Snowy was the only one who could reach him, and bring him home and a bond was formed between the two, catching Bold unaware. Love had risen up and surprised him, and all the loyalty and care he has shown to others in the past will be magnified tenfold when he and Snowy are together.

Beloved Sister
Bold has always been intensely fond of his youngest littermate, and from the time they were both pups Dreamer grew used to Bolds loving protection constantly at her side. Once grown their lives became more separate, but although they may walk different paths now, they walk them side by side. Dreamer still turns to her brother for support when in need and Bold, still the compassionate guardian he was as a pup, will always be there for her.

Will you be my friend?
Friendship
Mav and Bolds friendship is a familiar, everyday relationship he is wholly comfortable with. When Bold was still with the Fire Eagle he and Mav were packmates and worked together often, sharing large families and protective natures. Given Bolds naivety about the opposite sex he is perfectly unaware that there was perhaps a time when Mav would have been willing to be something more than friends but left unacted upon Bold settled happily down with Snowy and left the Fire Eagles for her pack. His mind will stray occasional to Mav with a smile, and he will greet her warmly on when visiting and hope for her happiness.

Father
Bold is very alike his father, a fact apparent to everyone but himself. A_E is intensely proud of his eldest, and still offers words of advise and support to his fully-grown son. They are as close now as they ever have been, despite the distance separating them, and it is rare for anything to shake their solid relationship.

Mother
Bold loves his mother dearly, and treats were with loving respect. She is someone he looks up to greatly, and she is the first one he seeks out when returning to the Fire Eagles to visit.

Younger Brother
Bold and Arrow developed a close bond in the time before Bold was Turned, when Arrow was a pup. Arrow was on of the middle pups of A_E and Flameys second litter, and all the other young pups around him seemed to have their special friend. Arrow felt as if he has missed out on his until Bold took him under his wing. Arrow was delighted and proud their eldest sibling had taken an interest in him, and hero-worshiped the big flamed male who treated him like an adult. He was crushed when Bold left the pack, and spent many lonely days before his best friend broke through to him and Bold will note with pleasure on his visits that Arrow has now taken in a young relative, Chayton, and treats him exactly the same way Bold treated Arrow when he was that age.
