The Rebels team plays in the Calgary Field Hockey Men's League in the second division. There is an outdoor team and an indoor team. The Rebels Field Hockey Team began in 1992 under the leadership of Steve Syme as a nameless Second Division component of the Calgary Wanderers Field Hockey Club. After battling in obscurity for some time (known only as the "New Team"), the team was finally named by Selwyn Rodrigues, a long time member of the Wanderers. The Rebels began to gain their independence from the Wanderers during the 1992-93 indoor field hockey season by fielding a team as "The Longshots". Second Division teams were fielded during the outdoor seasons in 1992 and 1993. Indoor teams have been entered by the Rebels continuously since 1992. By 1995, the Rebels had developed a unique personality described by high spirited, competitive play while maintaining exceptional good will and sportsmanship. In order to ensure the continuation of a tradition based on enjoyable recreational play, the Rebels officially applied to form a legitimate club in 1995.

The outdoor league runs from May to September at McMahon Stadium on weeknights, usually once or twice a week. The indoor league runs from November to March on Friday nights and is played at the Talisman Centre. Admission to watch the games is free.

Occasionally we have room for extra players. Please contact our team representative for more information.
