The leadership of The Rebel Voice (TRV) in conjunction with the OurRebelYears website is currently throwing around the idea of putting together a massive Allen Central Rebel Reunion.
With the rumors of ACHS and South Floyd being consolodated in the future, we thought ths idea of a massive Rebel Reunion would be a great idea. This would give everyone the opportunity to meet with students and faculty from every year that attended or worked at ACHS and have a pure Rebel blowout while our school is still standing. Many of you are aware of the recent battle that took place in order to save our schools flag. We would also like to make sure this celebration is held under that flag while it is still there. The next challenge might not fair so well and we fully expect another challenge in the future.
We are asking anyone that supports this idea to please contact us and let us know there are those out there that would like to see something like this happen. Basically, this is the testing ground to float the idea to the public and consider carrying out this idea if we get enough positive feedback.
So far the leadership of the TRV has recommended the following guidelines, however these have not been soildly adopted as of yet:
- This reunion would not limited to any single graduation year. It would be open to every single person that ever attended Allen Central for any period of time.
- This reunion would be open to any and all ACHS faculity, past or present. This include every single person that is working, or ever worked, at ACHS in any position.
- This reunion would also be open to anyone that will be attending ACHS in the future. Students and faculity from Duff, ACMS, May Valley would also be welcome.
- This reunion would be on the weekend for maximum attendance and start at approximately 11am and continue until it was over that evening.
- This would NOT be a formal dress event. Show up in jeans and a tee-shirt if you want. Or you could come dressed in the clothing of your era at ACHS.
- This would be a kid friendly environment and not a beer-guzzling, wild party (Sorry class of 84).
- This would be held to promote School Pride and get to know everyone that walked in your footsteps either before or after you.
Those are the basic guidelines recommended by TRV leadership. Once again, they are only tenetive ideas and not yet set in stone. TRV leadership is in contact with a few people concerning location and entertainment but again, this is just the basic starting point and nothing has been secured of yet. We need to know if everyone out there wants to do this. We need everyones feedback in order to proceed with this idea. Some of the other things we need is for people that can provide some support in the following ways;
- Entertainment (Local Bands, Talent of any kind, etc.)
- Location - The location would need to have electrical hook ups for the band(s).
- Food and Drinks - Anyone that could help provide any food and drinks would be appreciated.
- Chairs and Tables - This would also be a great help.
- Flags and Decorations - This event would have to have an ACHS feel to it. The more decorations, the better.
- Other - Any other support that can be thought of would be a great help.
There you have it. That is the plan we are currently working on and we really need your support if you think this is a good idea. Please e-mail us with your ideas and suggestions at [email protected]. All suggestions are welcome but we really need numbers to justify continuing with this idea.
How we determine if there is enough interest out there to have this Reunion
To explain our reasoning for this site and trying to collect enough interest in this endevor, we are going by a simple mathmatical formula and once the trigger number is reached, we will being actual operations in preparing this reunion. The formula goes something like this and is very generalized;
- We are going on the very general assumption that on average 70 students graduate from ACHS each year.
- We know there have been 35 graduating classes.
- 35 x 70 = 2450 (our general formula operates on the assuption that 2,450 students have graduated since ACHS has existed).
- Of this number we factor in an average of 200 students that cannot attend or even hear about this for various reasons)
- No we have 35 x 70 - 200 = 2250 potential students that might attent the reunion.
- Now we add approximately 100 faculity and former faculity and students that only attended part time. (We add 200 back to the total)
- Now we have 35 x 70 -200 + 200 = 2450 (our original number)
- We have set a goal of 10%, a fairly small number as the trigger number (accounts for interest in the reunion) that is 245 people.
- We add up the number of votes and e-mail to attain the 245 (interest in the reunion)
- We then subtract 10% to allow for people that vote but cannot attend or vote with no intentions of attending.
- So for every 10 people that vote, we discard 1 vote.
- At the time of writing this, we have had 50 people vote, so we have 45 of the 245 we need to hit the trigger number.
- We only count e-mails that show direct interest in the reunion for the right reasons. (not for profit)
- So to hit the target 10% of interest we require to start planning and pouring money into this project, 269 votes must be obtained.
- Once we obtain 269 votes (this is with all offsetting figures embeded) we will send out an e-mail to everyone with our plans.
- Our thinking is that if someone cannot take time to push a vote button, they sure aren't going to take time to show up.
- This addresses our concerns of dumping a load of money into this and having only a few people show up.
- So, if you are serious about this project, you need to vote and e-mail us
- This way, the alumni of ACHS is directly guiding this project, not us!!
