| ChainsawArtur: | Blackie,
What's you opinion about sites with guitar, bass and drum tablatures? |
||
| Blackie of WASP: | Well when I was a kid, the only way you could get that stuff was to buy it in a store. I studied all of that stuff that I could get my hands on so I would think that it might be a good idea for younger musicians to give them a really solid foundation. I don't use them anymore because the foundation that I got from them was really solid. But for someone just starting out, they're great. | ||
| JulandSandy: | Hi Blackie, Congratulations on Unholy Terror, the album is amazing! How do you feel about the............reaction the fans have given it? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | We've never had such an immediate reaction to any album. Oddly enough, it's very close to the Crimson Idol in the sort of response that it's received. But the Idol wasn't received as quickly, believe it or not. I also think that the Idol was the type of record that took a few listens for people to understand what it was. But it seems that from the first listen of this record Unholy Terror that it's been instantaneous. | ||
| TheCrimsonSite: | When I was sick in cancer you were my saviour listening to you made me not think so much of it....Thanks... When you did The Crimson Idol, did you learn anything new about yourself or do you do that on every album? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | I never really know quite what to say when someone tells me something like you are saying. | ||
| TheCrimsonSite: | Dont say anything....Just wanted you to know.. | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | It's enormously appreciated but because I think of myself as just a regular person it still amazes me to think that when I'm in my studio making a record that eventually people everywhere will hear it and even more remarkable is the idea that it could help someone. I learn a little about myself with every record, some more than others. But the Idol was different in the sense that I realized that I had been holding in a lot of personal feelings. But equally as well was the idea that I had been living in L.A. for so long and seeing the problems that kids have when they come here, trying to get into show business, that their stories were bothering me more than I gave it credit for I've always thought that I was a fairly compassionate person, because as an artist your passions run great in many areas. But when they would come up to me and talk to me about the stories and the rejection and abuse that they were going through really affected me far greater than I thought it did. Obviously, I could relate to what they were going through; I spent 6 years in L.A. where times were really, really tough and in all honesty I lived on about $5 a week for half that time. I could tell you horror stories of survival so when you put all this together the Idol became a pretty cathartic experience for me. | ||
| headlesswebsite: | i would like to beleive in recarnation too blackie headlesswebsite: what experience did u have in the arizona desert? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | When you get into native American Indian philosophy specifically Navajo, they believe in what is referred to as the Circle of Life and that there are four pathways or levels that we pass through It's quite complicated to go into now but that is the overview. But again I would say that I'm not sure what I believe. Although it's a nice idea I would hate to think that I would come back as a baboon or a toilet; that would be pretty rough. Sure kind of takes the romance out of the thought is there a book i can get about this circle of life? Yes, anything that deals with Navajo culture will probably have something to do with it. | ||
| G1POQ: | Hi blackie ! Roy Z is really amazing on unholy terror.. will you work together once again ? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | hard to say, it just depends on what the situation calls for, it's not something that we consciously think about or try to predetermine but I love Roy to death; there's nobody that's more fun to work with. | ||
| Rev WASPchild: | Hi Blackie and thanks for another exceptional album...what was your inspiration for "Who Slayed.."? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | Well I would have thought that it was pretty well documented by now but I will tell the story again..It was to do with the American football player Dick Butkus and him describing the scene in the Bette Davis movie Whatever Happened to Baby Jane where the head goes rolling down the stairs and it was a rather humorous interview where he said that that was what he thought about when he was on the field and he hit somebody. He said that he imagined the other guy's head rolling around on the field a new and I thought that that was hysterical because he was so serious. So the next thing you know, we have song. | ||
| metalgypsy: | Hi Blackie! When people visit our sites they are always screaming for new pictures, and so am I! Will you be doing any photo shots soon that will be available to us? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | I'm not sure if you are referring to old material or new material, obviously there is a ton of old stuff out there but there are about twenty new photos that are being released and considering that live dates start in less than a week there will be tons more. So be nice to your friends and they may share some with you. | ||
| josealberto(rebel): | Which members will play during the new tour? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | We are getting ready to do an official press release on Monday. Chris Holmes is out of W.A.S.P. Doug Blair is doing the European festivals with us. Hopefully in the press relase that comes out Monday, all of your questions will be answered. But I will say this, that there has been a tremendous amount of speculation as to who is coming and who is going and the reasons why. It seems that there are a lot of people out there that have nothing better to do with their lives than sit around and speculate as to what is really going on in a situation like this. There are rumors after rumors that most of the time don't mean anything but occassionally one of those rumors can become very ugly because they are just that, only a rumor. Senseless gossip that can in some cases really be hurtful to the individual that it is intended towards; you all know me well enough to know that nothing means nothing until we know exactly what we are going to do and when we know then you will know. I would encourage you to really try and limit the people who want to speculate with all of you about what is and what is not going on inside the W.A.S.P. camp. You can do a lot in a positive way to help me by doing this for me | ||
| TZF2: | Blackie any idea what W.A.S.P. home video's are going to be re-released on DVD next year? And when? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: |
Live at the Lyceum, Videos in the Raw, and we are not sure yet what we are going to do about the Crimson Idol film that was made. We are thinking pretty seriously about filming something for this tour. This goes back to the statement that I just previously made about rumors. There were a number of people that were dicussed about being a possible replacement but until n official announcement is made, all of those stories mean nothing. So the argument could be made why not the other people that were dicussed any more seriously considered than anybody else. I guess what I'm trying to say to you is just because that someone goes on the Internet and starts making claims does not make them true. So just because someone is considered for an audition doesn't mean that they made it to the audition. So again, I'm asking you not to fall into that trap of believing what you read from unofficial sources and when I say you I mean anybody because it spreads a lot of unfactual information that takes a lot of time to answer the questions when I could be spending that time talking about something that we all really want to talk about. So what I'm trying to say is until you hear it from me, don't believe.

| Grazzt999: | Hi from WASP WARRIORS European Fan Club ! You now seem to have a decent label at last, which is doing a great promotional job (you're just everywhere) , unlike your previous ones, any comment on that ? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | How about that, it only took 17 years to get it right. | ||
| Grazzt999: | any European tour planned by Metal-IS ? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | The only thing planned so far are the festivals the last comfirmation so far is Wacken on August 2nd. We will update you as more are comfirmed. | ||
| JulandSandy: | In Unholy Terror/Charisma liner notes you make reference to various historical figures.........If you had a chance to have a conversation with anyone from history (alive or dead) who would it Be and what would you ask? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | God ~ Why? What's it all about. | ||
| TheCrimsonSite: | In my opinion you are a genius, talented in speech and writing music, Have you ever thought of using this talent not just in music? Writing books? Politician? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | You are far, far too kind. I don't consider myself a genius, it's like Pete Townsend told me one time you just have to work your ass off for everything you've got. Maybe one day I might use what I have been blessed with in other areas, but who knows when that time may be. Honestly, I really don't want to think that far ahead. One of the things that I've been learning about Native American Indian philosophy is not to live so much in the future but to live more in the now | ||
| headlesswebsite: | ive always been curious what happened to your wrist in the pics of the Black enough album and is there a good story behind it? ? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | Yeah, I broke my wrist boxing about ten days before those shots were taken. I was given a new plastic cast to put on immediately after that video because those shots were taken from the video of Black Forever. You should have seen me at the hospital afterwards getting the cast cut off; they weren't really sure what it was because we had painted the cast black before the video shoot. It orginally had barbed wire wrapped around it and the words "Death Blow" written on the top of it. It made quite a colorful spectacle. The people at the hospital freaked. I had been given the plastic cast to put on after the plaster cast was cut off because we knew that with the paint and the water from the video that the plastr cast would be trashed after the video shoot. The people at the hospital freaked. Yes, I did keep the cast but we also had X-rays made that we still have a few of and we gave them away for different contests (radio, things like that) and some of them were autographed. The X-rays were pretty cool because you could see the break quite clearly. It felt like hell but it looked terrific. | ||
| G1POQ: | You always wanted to re-record the Mr Cool song.... will you do it some day? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | Maybe, it just depends on what collection of new songs we have for any new record, what is the mood of the band at the moment? How do I feel personally about it? A lot of things like that. I would say the original demos which the world has never heard (aside from the stuff that was on Napster, because that wasn't original) is probably better than anything that we could re-record because there is a real charm to it. | ||
| Rev WASPchild: | My 5 year old WASP freak, Conner, wanted me to say hi to "Bwackie Wawwess" for him... the big question here where I live is... will WASP make it to the northwest this tour (oregon)? Or is it still too early to tell? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | Howdy to Conner. It looks like this tour will take us to Portland, Seattle and Vancouver in late September. | ||
| ChainsawArtur: | How do you record each instrument and voice when on studio? Are they recorded in line-in or using microphones? How is the equalization you use on the amplifiers for a clean sound and for distortion? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | As a rule, the songs usually dictate how it will be recorded so the treatment of each song is dictated by what the song feels like. There is no predetermined way of knowing how you are going to do it until you get into the studio. When I did the Crimson Idol on the song Doctor Rockter I \par built whole chords on the rhythm track one string at a time and considering there are six strings on the guitar, do the math. Then there are some songs that are played live with the band like "Hate to Love Me" off this new album . So to keep it as simple as possible; it's everything from one string at a time to the whole band at one time playing together and just about every other combination in between imaginable. We rarely do things repetitive. | ||
| metalgypsy: | With all the Napster, etc controversy, do you have any objections to us having WASP songs/audio on our sites or others on their metal sites---and id ya ever get that 34 Ford I saw one at a car show our sites or others on their metal sites---and id ya ever get that 34 Ford I saw one at a car show last week? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | No luck on the 34 Ford, still heartbroken. But I do have a birthday coming up, you guys could all chip in if you really loved me. As far as the music, you have to remember that a lot of this falls under the jurisdiction of the record company and all artists are limited to what the label will and will not allow to be posted on those sites. Which is understandable since they are the ones that have been licensed to sell the product. | ||
| josealberto(rebel): | Will you edit any cd-single or videoclip from UNHOLY TERROR and When will you be playing on Spain? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | No plans for any singles or videos right now. We are speaking with the promoter in Valencia to do the festival there in August but that has NOT, I repeat NOT been confirmed as of yet. | ||
| TZF2: | Blackie you mentioned in a recent interview that you wanted to make this tour over the top? How do you plan to do so? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | We are thinking about a little thing called "Pope in the Box" . Let your imagination run with that. | ||
| Grazzt999: | any news about rebuilding an official fan-club ? (and dany need about a 10-year-experienced in that -domain guy) | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | The fan club really ended up being a lot less than we wanted it to be. The lack of cooperation that we got from promoters to accomodate the meet and greets turned out to be a nightmare. And honestly we don't see a way to control it the way that we would like. so at this point, until we can figure out a better way, it's going to be unlikely that we could do it the way that was originallly envisioned. | ||
| ChainsawArtur: | what's your opinion about black metal music? Do you know Emperor? Will you come to Portugal? | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | There are no plans to visit Portugal on this tour right now, unfortunately. And I'm not familiar with the band that you are asking about, and black metal is like any other kind of music, there is good and bad. When it's good it's great and when it's bad it can be pretty stinky. | ||
| Blackie of WASP: | The
reason that I did this was to try and create unity among all of you and
to show my enormous appreciation for everything that you do because I understand
the tremendous amount of work that it takes to make all the magazines and
websites work. Thanks a million!. I am forever grateful, your humble servant. See you all this summer |
