Webmaster Live Chat with Blackie Lawless 28 Julio 2001
Blackie of WASP: I would like to say Hi to everybody and thanks for taking the time today to be a part of this. I've brought you all together today so you would be the first to officially know the status of us bringing in a new member to the band. As you are the ones who are the most dedicated and put forth the most effort in constructing your websites, it seems to me only natural that you should be the first to know this kind of news as you are all intricate parts of the WASP family and I would rather have you all know first so you can make the world aware first as opposed to us doing some generic and impersonal sort of notification to the rest of the world and I really can't think of a better way of doing it than this. I know you all have a lot of questions as there as been speculation and rumor for quite some time now.

Hopefully I can answer all your questions that you may have. Let's go!

thehellion83: as a rule, how do you compose songs ? (lyrics, music first ?) I heard that you had dreamt of "the idol"...

Blackie of WASP: There is no set way of doing it, it's based purely on the direction that the inspiration comes from and that can come from several directions. So I don't try to get into any one formula because if you do that, you end up repeating yourself. .

Rev WASPchild: Great to hear from you again! How have the European shows been going?

Blackie of WASP: Well we only did two so far and we do two more this coming week and as you all probably know by now that the first two were done with guitarist Doug Blair. Doug was an intrical part of the Crimson Idol tour in '92 so he was the obvious choice to help us until a permanent solution could be had and again going back to the press release we were so busy interviewing guitarists that we figured that would be the best thing to do until we were sure who it was going to be and as you can imagine there has been a ton of rehearsals and preparation to get ready for what we are getting ready to do with the upcoming tours. As a side note speaking of tours it looks like WASP will probably be going to South America after the US tour is finished and that's significant as we have never played in South America before and are really looking forward to it.

JulandSandy: Hi Blackie, We would like to welcome Darrell intoW.A.S.P! How do you think the fans will react to him?

Blackie of WASP: Well as the press release has said we spent a long time looking at guitarists. Naturally when a new individual comes into the band there's always the feeling that they are chasing the ghost of the person that came before them, and naturally these are big shoes that have to be filled but I can honestly say watching this guy play and perform, it should not take the fans more than about a song or two to realize that they are witnessing something very special because this guy is a killer. The best way that you can have a new member accepted is for that musician to go out and prove to the world that he deserves to be there. It's not a question of erasing memories of the person that came before him but more an issue of creating his own legacy. I understand that this is big talk and it sounds like I'm setting this guy up to be something really special but believe me he is; as my quote said in the press release, I wish we would have had him in the band in the beginning and just by me making a statement like that that should tell you what I really think. .

josealberto(Rebel): I will see your concert in the Wacken Festival and I would to know What songs willl play it?

Blackie of WASP: We are still in rehearsals and will not finalize that until probably tomorrow. Sorry I can't be more descriptive. We have doing doing a lot of different songs in rehearsal and because of time limitations there just won't be time to play all of them..

headlesswebsite: i dont wanna pry too much into your private life Blackie but im just curious whats a typical day in t the life of blackie lawless, such as relaxation, yeah im nosy Blackie.....sorry....lol ?

Blackie of WASP: I've heard the word relaxation used by other people but I've never experienced it myself. You are probably familiar with the expression of all work and no play makes Blackie a monster. I don't think that it's easy to comphrend the intensive amount of the work that goes into making a record or creating a tour. There are a million and one little details that go into it so when you get on the road it's actually easy and I've said a million times that all I ever wanted to do was get on stage and sing and play a little bit and it turned into all of this. I think that everyone knows that if I have five spare minutes, I run to the desert but it was January when I was last there and I sure miss it. BUT it's time for me to come torture all of you which I must admit I enjoy.

Wasp94: "Blackie you know Unholy Terror has just made us all want MORE...are any songs for a new CD whirling inyour mind yet?, and can we expect a new WASP CD in2002? Hopefully even early 2002?"?

Blackie of WASP: Tunes are always whirling around in my head. Tentative plans right now for a new WASP album are for May 2002.

Grazzt999: Hi Blackie ! Will the European festivals be the only gigs you'll be playing in Europe, or is there a chance for us to see the real WASP headlining tour back in Europea after South America ?

Blackie of WASP: Unfortunately no, we would have to get back in the studio by December to be ready for a May release and although it has already been discussed about going back to Europe, unfortuantely there is no time to do it so look for us to be there to be there in the summer of 2002

EdithBunker1976: Blackie, I've seen a few different places where tour dates for your U.S. tour have been posted but in some cases one source differs with another. Some fans are confused about this How can we find out who's got the real accurate information on these shows ?
  Blackie of WASP:

Confirmations are happening as we speak, but the only real source is the WASP Nation website and the Children of hte Lawless, as we get closer to final confirmation on all the dates we will give them to all of you so you all can be up to date. But until we are closer to finalization we do not want to let information out that was not 100% correct in the form of absolute confirmation. But I do know that the US tour will be approximately 44 dates.

ChainsawArtur: who did the chainsaw sounds on chainsaw charlie, was it you Blackie with a real chainsaw?

Blackie of WASP: Yes it was, compliments of a Honda chainsaw that put out so much exhaust in the room that it made all the engineers sick to the point of throwing up and we had to let the room air out for about three hours before we could go back in and that gas smell was in the room for about two weeks afterwards. We should have probably done it outside but we weren't that smart. I guess you live and learn. I strongly advise not trying that at home.

Wasp94: OK.. now *I* have a question... but before I ask it... Blackie, can you give everyone an idea what to expect in the two opening bands that WASP will be taking out in the US?

Blackie of WASP: Well the big buzz right now is on Mushroomhead and although I have not seen them the general concensus is that it is somewhat Slipknotesque and rumor has it that they are going to give us a run for our money live and that I love. More bang for the buck. Concerning Dog Fashion Disco, we have not seen them live either but the feeling is that they are a strong up and coming band but time will tell as you all will be the judge of that. But all things considered, it sounds like it's going to be a real dog fight (pardon the pun) between all these bands. Si I'm putting on my boxing gloves becaue I intend to knock the the hell out.

Wasp94: Now my question... how does the band lineup (Holmes, Blair, Roberts) effect what kind of stage presentation the band delivers?(in terms of "show)?

Blackie of WASP: Well first of all I applaud you on that question as that is extremely insightful because the components being the musicians themselves greatly determine the direction that any band will take. Looking at the individuals not just the guitarists but all the members of the band determine ultimately the direction, the mood, and the vibe that you are trying to put across. So you have to look at the strengths of those individuals and determine where exactly you will go. The band that created the Crimson Idol and toured on that record is a different band both musically and individual direction. With Darrell bringing his energy it very much feels like it puts us in a state of mind of where we were in the very beginning.

Blackie of WASP: I would like to thank everybody again for giving me the chance to directly address with them what we are doing right now, I know that there were rumors that Darrell had come from some sort of a glam background but I assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. Although he did do less than a couple of shows with a couple of groups outside of his Alcoholica band it certainly could not be construed or made to resemble that he did anything like that. After all I was in the New York Dolls for about five minutes and you definitely see what became of me and this guy is definitely cut from the same cloth as myself. Although he is a very aggressive and talented guitar player, it wasn't until I heard him sing that it really got my attention because this guy is a lead vocalist and well as a lead guitar player and his vocal blend with myself is remarkable. I don't think that I'll be too far off the mark in saying that this guy will eventually have his own solo career. He's that good. Let's just hope that that's not for awhile. I must go to make noise now.
