Rolfing Memorial Library

Collection

Initially, Trinity's library was quite small, but holdings grew under the deanship of Dr. Kantzer. Around 1970, the library purchased about 20,000 volumes from a library that was dissolving. In 1993, the library received aout 3,000 books from Dr. Harold Erickson's personal library. Dr. Erickson was a pastor affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church and Evangelical Covenant Church. Through the generous budgetary allocations provided by President Meyer, the library was able to grow its modest collection. In the late 1990s, it was evident that the library needed a more consistent materials budget to serve the needs of its community. Through cooperation with the dean and concentrated effort on the part of dedicated library staff members, the library began to expand its collection, with particular growth in the area of liberal arts majors, such as education, psychology, philosophy, health science, communications, and missions.

Location

The library migrated several times before settling at its present location in the Rolfing Memorial Library building. Until the early 1970's, the library was maintained in the missions building. In fall of 1971, the library moved to the Carl F. H. Henry Research Library in the main academic building. Both the seminary and the college library were temporarily housed in the Aldeen building in the summer of 1972. Between 1974 and 1976, the seminary library began to move staff and materials into the Rolfing Memorial Library building.

Archives

During the 1992-1993 school year, the library acquired the Carl F. H. Henry papers, which were kept in the TEDS archives. The library also secured a commitment to gain the Kenneth S. Kanzter papers in the future. Rolfing already had the Wilbur M. Smith documents.
