Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy
Emil Vodder, Ph.D., developed Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) during the 1930's. MLD is a gentle technique designed to increase the lymphatic system's flow and filtration capability.

By encouraging the superficial network of lymphatic capillaries as well as lymph node stimulation, a trained MLD therapist can successfully guide a compromised lymphatic/ circulatory system to function with efficiency. MLD is a non-invasive therapy, which maximizes the body's elimination and purification potential.

The lymphatic system is a significant component of the body's immune function. This closed, one-way system consists of lymphatic fluid, capillaries, vessels, lymph nodes and organs. Lymph nodes are bean-shaped filters responsible for purifying lymph. Lymphatic fluid also hydrates the extracellular space which lies betweem the vascular, muscular, nervous and organ structures. The lymphatic system helps maintain and protect the internal fluid environment of the entire body. Immune, neuromuscular and tissue health depend greatly on proper lymphatic circulation.

Any alteration within the body, organic or surgical, can affect the direction and efficiency of lymphatic fluid flow. As a result, lymph can stagnate and begin to solidify, creating painful pressure and disease. Manual Lymphatic Drainage gently redirects and stimulates the lymphatic system encouraging optimal health.
