Rebecca Cuevas De Caissie publishes a book of poetry
9/29/05 by Jean-Paul LeBlanc
A multi cultural heritage and upbringing provides the inspiration to Rebecca Cuevas De Caissie for writing
some poetry. Born and raised in Miami (Florida) where she stayed until the age of 25, she has since
lived in different cities across the United States including Lafayette where she was influenced by the Cajuns. She is now living in Richibucto with her husband that she met in British Columbia, Gabriel Caissie, originally from Rogersville. She really enjoys living in a small community, very close to the shore and the Maritimes serves as more inspiration for poetry writing. She is also influenced by her five children, a 12-yr old girl and four boys aged 10, 13, 15 and 16. An Award winning poetess, Rebecca, who has been
living in this area since last September, is very happy that her poetry will soon be published. The 100 page
book will be published by Publish America, from Maryland: I expect the book to be published before
the end of October. I really like Publish America because they are so down to earth and not intimidating.
The final proof is being done now. People who read my poetry have asked me to publish and I will be
happy to see the end result. Rebecca won the Poetry.com Editors Choice for the year 2000 and 2001
and the Famous Poets Society Award called the Most Accomplished New Poets for the year 2000.
Rebecca, who fluently speaks Spanish and English, has a Hispanic background (she says she looks like
her Guatemalan father) but she was also influenced by the Cajuns from Lafayette, where she stayed before
coming to Kent County. She says that she be considered an Arcadian, in reference to the people who are
not Cajuns but fall in love with the Cajuns way of life. The 35-yr old Rebecca, who has written more than
600 poems, is currently working on a second book that will be called An Arcadian Love Song.
The poetess has no formal training but has been writing since the age of 13 and enjoys it even more
now: I enjoy free verse because it is not restrictive. I find it more liberating. When I write, I try to express something and I like people to really feel what I was feeling at the time of writing. The public is invited to attend the launching and signing of the book at the Richibucto Public Library on October 20th at 6:00 p.m., coinciding with the Canadian Library Week that will be held from October 17-24 celebrating the theme "Lifelong Libraries - Discover Us!". Rebecca has agreed to give free workshops on poetry and writing at the public library. She is also extending the invitation to other libraries and non profit groups.

10/20/2005
The Albert-Westmorland-Kent Library Region is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a book launch at the Richibucto Public Library during Canadian Library Week. This volume of poetry is Rebecca Cuevas de Caissies first individual bound publication. She is in the process of publishing a second book and has now begun work on a third which will involve Acadian love poems. Come discover our libraries and her love of poetry with us! Mrs. Cuevas de Caissie was born and raised in sultry South Florida. Her multicultural heritage and upbringing make this author a true romantic at heart. She has lived in various cities throughout North America and now calls Richibucto her home. She lives there with her husband and five children. As well, she is the editor for Hispanic Culture at BellaOnline.com. Her new book of poetry "Lamentations of the Caves" will be launched at the Richibucto Public Library on October 20th, 2005 at 6pm. All members of the public are welcome. Rebecca will be at hand to discuss her poetry, her inspiration and the role public libraries has played all through her life and her childrens lives. Her poems have been compared to lyricism akin to the greats. Her past creative experiences include urban poetry,
writing on sidewalks under the pseudonym,  Loves Assassin, in large American cities. She has recently devoted her days to family and friends in her New Brunswick surroundings, but writing remains a part of her world. Rebeccas exotic roots ring clear through the themes of romance and the landscapes of Southern expanses found in her work. No registration is required to attend the launch. The poet will be in attendance, will sign autographs and answer questions. Advanced purchase orders on copies of
"Lamentations of the Caves" will be available. For further information on this event, please contact the Richibucto Public Library at 523-7851. To discover the author, please visit her website at www.rebeccaspoetryonline.us.tt/.
Coat Donating Program For Needy Children
Jean-Paul LeBlanc
Three Grade 5 students from the Rexton Elementary school gladly accepted to show that they are among the lucky ones who have appropriate winter clothing by accepting to be photographed with some of donated winter clothing (jackets, mitts, scarves and boots) already received at the school. First row, from l. to r., Brad Arsenault, Francis Acosta and Francis LeBlanc. Second row, Frank MacPhee, school principal and Rebecca Cuevas de Caissie, who initiated the project and coordinates the campaign. Some children go to school in the winter without being properly dressed for the cold weather. Some do it by
choice but others, for a variety of reasons, just dont have the warm clothing available. A Richibucto-Village resident, Rebecca Cuevas de Caissie, was concerned about the situation and decided to act by knocking on doors and finding partners. The public is now invited to give winter clothings like coats, jackets, mitts, boots and toques. Many area churches have accepted to help receiving the donations. The following churches are already on board: Elsipogtog Church, Rexton Catholic Church, United Pentecostal Church at Kouchibouguac (Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m..), Indian Island Church and St Louis de Gonzague Church in Richibucto. Laura Daigle, Richibuctos church secretary, has already helped many children with the help from some women within the church who knit some clothing to help needy children. The Elsipogtog radio station (101.1) is also a partner in this coat donation project. The Rexton Elementary School (Att : secretary) and Frenchys store in Rexton (Att : Claudette Little) are also used at Drop-in Centres for the donated winter clothes. Many local businesses are acting as partners by posting flyers and asking their employees to support this campaign. A Coat Collection Drive will be held on January 27, 28 and 29th. A group of volunteers will visit the homes to collect the coats and other winter clothes.
Residants of Richibucto and Rexton will be visited along with Bouctouche if the weather cooperates. Other regions will be visited if volunteers are available. People who want more details about this campaign can call Rebecca Cuevas de Caissie at 523-1019. Many people have already reacted  positively and this campaign is expected to be successful as many families have extra winter clothing on hand. The
children will be the grand winners of this campaign. Students from the Rexton Elementary, Harcourt
Elementary, Eleanor W. Graham Middle School, Elsipogtog School, Calixte F Savoie, Dr-Marguerite-Michaud, Camille-Vautour, Mont-Carmel, Saint Paul and Soleil Levant will be the first beneficiaries.
