Born and raised in northern
Massachusetts, Rebecca began her career in
illustration in 1992 after graduating from Pratt Institute with a major
in illustration, working extensively in comics, doing both black and white and
painted work in titles such as Marvel's 2099 Unlimited, Conan,
and DC's Swamp Thing. Under DC's Vertigo imprint, Rebecca was the
regular artist on Black Orchid for over a year. Her painted work
has also graced various trading card series, such as Topps' Star Wars
Galaxy II, Aliens/Predator, and the Endless Gallery
for DC. Her other work includes book
covers for Simon and Schuster and Scholastic Books as well as frequent
appearances in Cricket Magazine and numerous pieces in the
gaming publications of White Wolf.
Rebecca's first appearance in Magic
was in Alliances. Since then, she has been a part of most of the
following expansions, painted over sixty cards, two Magic graphic
novels, Homelands and Serra Angel, and appeared in two Magic: The Gathering calendars.
She cites the works of Edmund Dulac,
Arthur Rackham and NC Wyeth as
well as Alphonse Mucha and Rose O'Neil as inspiration for her art. (See Inspirations
below)
She
lives in Amherst, Massachusetts, along with her husband, illustrator
Matthew Mitchell, and their young daughter.
