Life went on, and I became a spectator. Mankind continued to develop new technologies, improving on every level execept one. The earth was grossly overpopulated and her resources could no longer sustain man's numbers. A solution had to be found. Colonization became the answer. Terra forming technologies were developed and mankind began moving in greater numbers to the outlying planets of the solar system. It was discovered that a great many of the planets that were once thought uninhabitable were indeed ripe for the taking. A combined effort from all the nations of earth formed multi national space borne platforms, from which man would extend his reach outward at an alarming rate. Of couse, to me, the centuries were but drops in the bucket of time, which had become meaningless to me. I watched the rise of the Alliance and the Coalition forces. I marked the time when the wars began, until no one could remember exactly why they were even fighting. They fought because it was the only thing they knew how to do. Technology could not replace the loss of what was once known as common sense. Resources were no longer an issue, only political power. This power is what corrupted man. This power is what led to the exodus in the form of multiple sleeper ships, escaping to the Sirius system. Again, I watched as the refugees struggled to create new worlds for themselves, modeling their new worlds after their memories of earth. Mankind had again found purpose, to thrive and flourish in this new system; to enrich themselves in new discoveries of science and culture; to continue their way of life; and for awhile, it was good... |
