SmackDown!: Just Bring It By Alan
The popular WWF (or WWE, now) series lands on the PS2. THQ hopes to improve all aspects of the first two installments using the PS2 engine. And of course, they pull it off. SmackDown returns with an updated roster, new matches, and improved graphics. Just Bring It is not only for wrestling fans, but for all gamers as well.
The Pros
The Gameplay
SmackDown offers controls that can be a bit tricky at first, but will soon become second nature. All the moves are merely one button combinations with one of the directional buttons. So, UP+ X will perform a suplex, while DOWN+X will trigger a DDT. THQ has seemed to follow this button scheme since the N64 game WCW/NW0 World Tour. The different modes of gameplay will also keep one playing for hours on end. From Royal Rumble, to TLC (tables, ladders, and chairs,) to Story mode, this game offers a lot a of variety. But whats really cool, thats pretty much a standard now for all wrestling games, is the Create-A-Wrestler mode, which brings us to our next Pro.
The Create-A-Wrestler Mode
The CAW mode in this game has to be one of the best by far. All kinds of physical characteristics, tons of clothing and ring apparel, and an endless list of moves you can assign your wrestler. You can spend hours just working on a new wrestler, making him into the perfect wrestling machine. Whats even better is that once you make one, you wanna start creating another. Great for pitting your created wrestlers against a friend's. (As of this day, Billy has won all SmackDown CAW tournaments, leaving Alan a very angry little jabroni.) |
